NC Out of state on vacation, need vehicle inspection

Hey guys. Long story short I came down to FL to help my family with the hurricane aftermath, the Rx8 came with me, and I've had some work getting done to it. I've been down here longer than I had anticipated (then again with getting back on your feet after a storm, not really a concrete duration I can put on that.)

Long story short, my car is Titled and registered in NC, and my inspection is due. I know they allow you to have the inspection performed out of state if you are obviously not in NC, but FL does not have any inspection requirement.

Has anyone ever dealt with this before? I would prefer to drive the car back up there, but I obviously don't want to chance it with an expired inspection.

I'd contact the appropriate agency in NC and ask if there are extensions or exceptions that can be granted for people in your situation.

I looked through the DMV documents, and they specify if the state doing the inspection outside of NC complies with the NC state statutes regarding emissions and safety inspections, then Its okay to have it done in that state.

However, being as how florida has zero emissions or safety inspections...that makes it difficult. I did, however manage to finally get through to someone at the DMV. Being as how my car was in for service while it was down here, Proof of that invoice that has my name, VIN, etc can be used as an exemption for inspection.

So, if anyone in NC ever finds themselves in an out of state situation where they need an inspection done in a state that has zero inspections (Florida.) This may be helpful, if the car was down for service at the time.

Have to contact the DMV regardless to obtain the fax number of the person that will be assigned to implementing the exemption so you can login and renew your registration.

How do you even compare the requirements between the two states? Don't know about NC but can't imagine one state would accept the inspection from another state. Would you be able to drive around with the out of state inspection sticker on your windshield for the whole year when you get back home? What are the chances you would get pulled over on the same day you return home for an expired inspection?
