Again, a fascinating race. Despite the naysayers.

bse50 07-27-2014 10:30 AM

I'm sorry you're too stupid to understand my point.

RIWWP 07-27-2014 10:41 AM

I guess simple minds are easily entertained?

bse50 07-27-2014 02:40 PM

Probably. That's why those gimmicks are steering away real motorsport fans.

On a sidenote... i should be visiting a f1 team factory in october!

skc 07-27-2014 07:40 PM

Well done Riccciardo the early pitstop won him the race together with some great driving. I like this track and the rain really tested the drivers.

Good effort Hamilton starting from the pitlane and finishing 3rd is a commendable feat.

Will66 07-28-2014 03:38 AM

I don't understand why people think Alonso is so good? He's not bad but he's not the best. Hamilton's drive from the pits to the podium was far more entertaining.

As for the technical rules, it's been designed to create more entertaining racing rather than push laptimes, when F1 cars were faster there was far less actual racing. If you want to have the ultimate in speed with minimal technical restrictions I reckon that a Time Attack/Lap Battle type series would be the way to go. No restrictions other than all cars have to fit within a certain box size and have a high strength driver safety cell.

RIWWP 07-28-2014 09:37 AM

^ That is probably why I was uninterested in F1 before. It was boring to watch. The only passing accomplished was through pit stop times, mechnical failures, and wrecks. Sure, real battles on track DID happen, they were just so infrequent that it wasn't worth the tedium of watching race after race of start order = finish order hoping for one.

So far this year, over half of the races have had me really interested and involved, exciting to watch.

It's also why time trial like races are boring to watch. You are only watching a set of numbers, looking for a low one to show up if the driver has enough skill and enough money to get a lower number than other drivers.

Do I think F1 cars should be slower? No. Do I think F1 cars should have fuel limitations? No. However I can't (and don't) have any objection to the racing that the changes have produced. Despite being slower, not a single driver has commented that these cars are any easier to drive, in fact it's been the opposite. And of that, I approve. The top form of motorsports SHOULD have hard cars to drive, as it will bubble skill further and further to the top, and less how much money is behind them. I suspect that many of the 'rare' finishes this year can be attributed to that. Force India, for example.

Hamilton is an idiot, plain and simple. Rosberg could have won the race if it weren't for him ignoring team orders.

Alonso is the best driver to ever grace the sport.

While Alonso is very good, Schumacher was the best.

It's easy to do that when you have a car that's 2 seconds a lap faster than the rest of the field, minus Rosberg of course.

bse50 07-28-2014 04:35 PM

I'm not sure Al: schumacher had the best car with the best team and did 150k km of tests a year, almost 3 times more than other teams did. It's hard to judge him.

@Riwwp: the problem was that the cars were a lot faster but the new tracks weren't up to the task size wise.

You saw action at Spa, Monza and at the other longer tracks with wider lanes. You also see action when the straight is after the hairpin, not before. Tilke failed to aknowledge that.
They blamed Aero yet focused on reducing it without CHANGING it. Making ground effect cars legal again would clean the flow for the following cars taking away the garbage that the actual DRS is. It's easy to overtake when you can stall a wing and the dude in front of you can't.

All cars had FRIC this year yet they banned it mid season. Why? Why ban improvements?
The same was for the blown diffusers.

F1 is a huge pile of crap that needs to restart from scratch.

Will66 07-29-2014 02:17 AM

I don't think it's a pile of crap that needs to be restarted but I do think that they could have done very different things to get the cars to race closer. Bigger tyre would be interesting, getting rid of the power on demand features and drs would make it a lot more honest racing. Even I could over take if I had a button that gave me 10km/h more speed than the guy in front.

Kinda shows the series is dictated by desire for TV ratings not being the pinnacle of Motorsport.

bse50 07-29-2014 03:26 AM

...yet they sold the tv rights to private tvs from all over the world like sky which lead to the free fall of viewers :)

Stellar dark humor there.

Hamilton and Alonso are badasses. Too bad Alonso has such a shitty car.

Hamilton looks like part of a shitty team though.
This year Mercedes is pushing Rosberg: winning the world title with a german driver in a german car would mean a lot, especially after the world cup.

bse50 08-24-2014 10:34 AM

Nice race! I risked a stroke watching Alonso race his ass from lap 22 onwards.

Hamilton is the usual whiney crybaby. First he smashes into Rosberg, then he complains about not being able to recover and asks for permission to retire. Way to go...

I watched the replay 10 times and it's apparent how Rosberg actually tried to avoid contact after going out of space to corner. That S is not as flat and easy as it looks.

Ricciardo is teaching Vettel a lesson and I like it.
The cars are slow and dangerous on a fast track because of their high weight and low downforce. Both Raikkonen and Alonso had problems at the eau rouge, losing control there with the short run off areas could result in serious injuries or even worse. Oh well...

WaitingforFI 08-25-2014 07:33 AM

It would appear that Rosberg hit Hamilton intentionally. If that is the case, that is just asinine.

bse50 08-25-2014 07:35 AM

it doesn't look like it:

only Hamilton said that Rosberg admitted to hitting him... Rosberg said otherwise.

Mazmart 08-25-2014 08:29 AM

Rosberg showed his personality in Monaco. He plays dirty for sure.
Ham wines but he gets back to business. Time will tell, regarding this championship.
I love Ricciardo; such a champ in the making, with skill and great demeanor.

Paul.

Scottobot 08-25-2014 09:08 AM

F1 has a new villain in Rosberg.

archwisp 08-25-2014 10:40 AM

The fault in the Mercedes incident looked to be equal. Rosberg was pushing it but Hamilton was obviously defending and just stuck to his line even though Rosberg was there. Rosberg didn't really have anywhere to go.

Although, It is interesting that most of the time when Rosberg beats Hamilton it is when either Hamilton's car explodes or because of some incident that Rosberg was involved in.

Edit: And yeah, Hamilton can be whiney but he's much improved in that. I'd attribute that to his age. Rosberg and Vettel are the same. But Hamilton is a much better driver than either of them.

archwisp 08-25-2014 11:19 AM

"He said he could have avoided it, but he didn't want to," said Hamilton. after meeting with Rosberg and Mercedes bosses Toto Wolff and Paddy Lowe. "He basically said, 'I did it to prove a point.'"

"Nico felt he needed to hold his line," said Wolff. "He needed to make a point. He didn't give in. He thought it was for Lewis to leave him space and that Lewis didn't leave him space.
