NO 05' Stang For You!

1 Attachment(s)
Tonight me and a buddy of mine went over to a Ford dealership to check out the new 05' Mustangs. When I pulled in the Ford parking lot I parked my 8 nose to nose to a new red 05' Stang that was parked rite in front of the dealership, so we got out and begain looking over Fords new offering to the sports car world. It's not bad much better than the old body style but it's still very "Ford" cheesy plastic , lack of detail and the rims look more sooted for a Geo Metro not a sports car. Anyway after a short while I noticed what appeared to be one of the sales men from the dealership walking laps around my 8 scratching head, he looked at me then my car then me again. "Hey this your car" he said? I said ya and he asked what it was, I informed him it was an RX-8 and gave him a short run threw , what was stock and what was not. He replied " man I thought this was a Viper or somthing it's awsome!!!" He nearly wet him self when he saw the interior (Red & Black leather) all he could say is "wow". He then informed me that he was going to be purchasing a new sports car in fact he had made plans to buy the red 05' I had parked in front of, he was walking out to get the paper work out of the stang's glove box when he spoted my car in front of it. He aked me all the standerd questions " how you like, how fast is it, how's it handle.......ect" then he asked if he could sit in the back seat? I said sure and opened up the rear door " HOLY SH!T this thing is a four door!!!" He sat in the back seat and was happy to see he had plenty of room, he loved the center console. He got back out took a few steps back looked at the 8 then the stang and said " that's it, thats the car I want" pointing at my 8. He said his boss was going to be pissed but he didn't care the new Stangs are nice but it's not an RX-8. I'm proud to say tomarrow he's going to be a 8 owner he wants a red one like mine :p Who would of thought I would go to a car dealership and sell a car to a car salesmen :D :D :D

Good on you for converting more to the flock!

bean438 11-12-2004 10:53 PM

Omg, cheesy plastic, lack of detail?
I said much the same about Ford products and almost got my head ripped off.
Before I bought my 03 Celica I rented a new loaded stang convertible, leather etc.
I was very disappointed with the quality. I did not buy one.
Someone responded that just because Ford made mistakes in the past that I should let it go. Give them a second chance.
Looks like they blew it again.
I trade the celica anyway for my 8 and havent looked back.
In my opinion Japanese cars outperform, and out "look" all others.

Props to you!

I too have been accused of driving a "VIPER" :)

Lol the Nissan Salesman was like OMG what is that a VIPER?!

I said certainly not! Its a Mazda RX8... (mazda dealer is right across the street from nissan so i thought he was pretty stupid as you can see the rx8's pretty clearly)

He started asking me all these questions about it.

He asked me if it was a v8 or V6 with 5 speed.

After laughing for about 5 seconds i said it was a 2 Rotar and i had the 4 speed automatic but you can get a 6 speed instead.

He freaked out first about the 6 speed option. Then he asked me what the Rotor engine was and I said basically it is a 1.3L Whankle engine.

Sadly he knew nothing about it. So i said nevermind its just to complicating to explain.

Then he moved on to Top Speed for it.
I hesitantly replied with a 125mph Governor limit for the 4 speed and no Governor for the 6 speed which can reach 140 or so.

Once again he flipped out over this.

Finally i said cant you help me out with some cars?

He asked me how old i was. I said 16 and he is like oh darn i shouldnt let you drive any of the cars but what the hell!

He ended up letting me drive a 350Z and Altima SE-R.

350 was ok. But the SE-R was so smooth with some get-up-and-go!

That was one fun day for me. ;)

Here's some pictures of the 05 Mustang. My dealer also sells Fords, so I'm going to check it out next time I'm there for service. I think the front and side look pretty sweet. The rear looks like it belongs on a Lincoln. And that spoiler just ruins it. I think I would have chopped about 4 inches off the rear end and angled it inward. That would look sweet.

The inside looks cheap in the photos. The silver plastic store called -- they said they're running out. Looks like they found a new use for the radio/AC cluster from the Ford Aerostar. And put a bag over that shifter -- looks like someone was trying too hard to be different. I give it a B-.

Ya, the inside has way to much shiny plastic pretending to be chrome, I'm not sure what it is but it just seems cheap and the shifter looks like it belongs on a toy "power wheel" our somthing, not very classy at all.

i dont mind lol

RX10000RPM : your Rx8 looks sweet. What kind of rims are those? im looking to hookup my white Rx8 soon

magixpuma 11-13-2004 08:21 AM

I saw these hunks of shit 2 days ogo i almost threwup diahrea. I drove my taurus there and said to myself how i rather have the taurus then the stang. i looked at the wheels and they had the 3 prong tire ripper things from GRease the musical i actually laughed at the car when i saw the horrific deisgn styling cues and the interior. it was a graphite color and auto. i almost shitted my self. hell let em be faster than us when ever some 1 in that car pulls up to me at a stop light i wont be able to stop laughing at how ugly it is.

RX8_Buckeye 11-13-2004 08:57 AM

Wow, a couple more RX-8 owners calling the new Mustang a hunk of !@#$. It must really be true--bean is saying to himself that he was right all along . God forbid there are some of us that can look at both cars objectively and see that each has its own set of strong points and weak points. For those who want to hear both sides of this debate, refer to these threads.

I'm not going to waste any more time trying to make people understand that you shouldn't base your opinion of the new Mustang on what the old one was like. As for forming opinions on the aesthetics of the car, interior and exterior, say whatever you like, but I have yet to read a review of the new Mustang that says anything like "very "Ford" cheesy plastic , lack of detail", "horrific deisgn styling cues and the interior". By the way, there are multiple styles of 17" wheels for the car from which you can choose, and for the '06 model there will be 18" wheels that, IMO, look fantastic.

magixpuma 11-13-2004 09:09 AM

umm im only stating what i thought as soon as i looked at it. If any1 ever gave me 1 for a prize i would sell it.

WOW, separated at birth. Been there, done thaT. Can noone at Ford have an original design idea? If you want an '05 save about 10K and buy a restored 69 fastback.

Johnnyma45 11-13-2004 09:37 AM

Does the salesman know that most likely, the 8 he picks up won't be MS kitted?

irish8 11-13-2004 09:39 AM

That's an awesome story!! It was fate....

I understand that a lot of people are turned off by the whole "retro" thing, and that's fine. But to be fair, can you really buy a fully restored (close to the standards of a new car) '69 fastback for $15k. Also, will that '69 fastback have 300hp, a factory warranty, and all of the convenience features that come standard on a new car?

theCATALYST 11-13-2004 09:47 AM

Im not going to bash the new Stang, I think it is simply "OK" looking, but not impressive. My wife and I have been shopping for a new car for her, she likes the Nissan Altima, so we went to two different dealerships. At the first, my salesman did the same tour of my Winning Blue, asking all sorts of questions about it. At the second, the salesman, sales manager, and entire sales force came out in number to view my car. I can not describe how PROUD I was of my 8. Later in the week, we decided to go to a Chevy dealership to lookover the Tahoe, and all of a sudden again a crowd forms around my 8, salesman, and shoppers alike. I have to say, the 8 gets noticed. Of course I live in a small town and spotting an 8 is rare, but the crowd that my 8 gathers is unreal, and I LOVE it. If the new Stang can even garner half the attention, it will be a success.

Ok, a little more than 15K. I'd buy this one (even w/ the auto tranny) before I even thought about an '05

Good finds, valpac. To many people, the classic Mustang would be more appealing--especially those who like to work on cars in their free time. But to most buyers who aren't mechanically inclined and don't want to constantly come up with money to maintain an old car, the new car would be more practical.

Jeffjett 11-13-2004 10:46 AM

I can't believe that people who sell cars know so little about them, or what else is on the market. Every time I go to a car lot and look at a new car, I have to explain to the sales person exactly what it is they are selling. Incredible.

Did this sales guy know the relationship between Mazda and Ford?

valpac 11-13-2004 11:09 AM

Yeah, you're probably right about new vs. old for buyers, RX8 Buckeye. I'm older and really liked the 69 when I was a kid, so I guess for me the new one is trying to cash in on a beautiful design. Many buyers weren't even around in 1969, its new to them (and some would say beautiful I guess). Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Batman220 11-13-2004 11:21 AM

Okay, my first post is that the 05 stang looks horrible IMHO. I just don't understand what Ford was thinking. When I buy a new car, especially a sports car, I want it to be cutting edge and inspire me. If I wanted to drive a car that looked like it was from the 60's I would just buy one of those. Seems to me that when you design an update to a car you would include the stying cues that make the car a mustang, but update the design not just make it look like a car produced 30 years ago. The corvette has always kept the styling cues that make it uniquely a corvette, but they keep updating it so it looks like a new age of the car not an old one. I am sure 300 hp and 320 tq is nice and it will blow a 8 out of the water at a stop light, but I want new and exciting not old and more of the same.

valpac 11-13-2004 11:36 AM

maybe Ford is trying to cash in on baby boomers like me, trying to re-live our youth.

I never owned a 69 fastback, but a friend of mine had one. I remember sitting in the back seat while he burned the tires off. Smoke would seep into the cabin from around the real wheel wells. Pretty cool stuff, back then. Holds no appeal to me anymore.

Lemme carve the turns with my 8 instead.
