wow, unexpected news! Very cool to see Mazda with its hand in it for this year!

I hear it's running an MZR engine. Why not Skyactiv I wonder?

Paul.

I was at 24 hours of Rolex in Daytona, and can think of three very good reasons why not, lol

well, they could go fullblown weird and run a rotary :icon_tup:

It's a bad idea.

Mazda not officially (o semi-) involved. just "private" work.
IMHO

Isn't Mazda sort of low on funds, hence why no development on a new rotary. Seems like a bad idea.

Don't count out the Sky-d racing effort that quickly. They are coming along well from what I hear.

My question was more related to Sky-g vs MZR. Mazda gasoline engines. I am wondering how suited to racing these may be. I know that it is made to be light and low friction and that does not always equate to durability without great cost.

I'm hoping that the gasoline Skyactiv engine can at least be raced with upgrades in connecting rods and cams etc.

Paul.

Michelin Departs DeltaWing Project Following Goal Completion - 24 Hours of Le Mans, American Le Mans Series - The Checkered Flag

The DeltaWing project continues under the guidance of Don Panoz but has recently been put in doubt after the departure of major partners including Dan Gurney’s All-American Racers who built and tested the DeltaWing, Highcroft Racing who helped develop the car, Ben Bowlby who designed the car and now Michelin.

Panoz’s engineering company Elan Motorsports Technologies is developing a new engine to replace the 1.6 litre Nissan powerplant based on a Mazda four-cylinder block. Despite the use of the Mazda engine, Mazda North America has confirmed that it has no involvement in the project despite being approached a number of times by Panoz; John Doonan, head of Mazda’s U.S. racing operations stated that the timing was never right.
