Next-generation Mazda 6 sedan planned for 2014 model year

Mazda used the New York auto show on Wednesday to announce its plan to produce a new Mazda 6 sedan for the 2014 model year. The new Mazda 6 will benefit from a "full suite of Skyactiv technologies," Mazda said. Skyactiv is Mazda's brand name for gasoline and diesel engines and multi-speed transmissions engineered to reduce fuel consumption. Mazda said the design of the new sedan "will be strongly influenced by the Takerii concept," according to a press release. The Takeri concept was first shown at the 2011 Tokyo motor show. People have pointed to this body style as being the next RX car before. This should expell any more of these rumors. |

Mazda has long indicated that the styling from Shinari was a representation of their future design language and embodied what they called 'Kodo' or soul of motion. They said very early on that their next mid size sedan would look quite similar to Shinari prior to the introduction of Takeri which is, for all intents and purposes, the next 6 in concept form. If there is a next rotary car, it will have Kodo flavor as well. Paul. |

There's a write-up all about it in the current issue of Zoom-Zoom magazine. I've had my issue for a couple of weeks.

I like it but something between the front fenders and the front doors looked a lil squished for some reason. Can't quite put my finger on it.
|
the official debut of the 2014 Mazda 6 will be at the 2012 Paris Auto Show in September and the new car will go on sale in the first half of 2013. Only the 2l Sky Active G announced so far. most likely that will be the only thing available at launch like the CX-5 and the D will roll out later

But if it actually came out looking like that pic and with those wheels, I could definitely live with it. |
Only SkyActiv-2.0 like the Mazda3 ?
I don't know man, I would rather wait for the Diesel version to come out. |
Can't wait for the new Mazda 6! The only Mazda 6's that looks good are the 03-04 years. This one cuts the cake for sure.

Good god this is all old news, yes the Takeri is the new Mazda 6, and it will have the 2.2 SA Turbo Diesel, plus talk of a 2.5l 4cyl SA gas for North America (that one I am not so sure about).

I hope that the 2.5 rumor is true so that we do not have a severely underpowered car in that segment (Vs it's chief rivals). I'm also not sure how significant of a problem the hp numbers (Or lack thereof) on the Sky D will be in terms of sales potential. Will the insane fuel mileage compensate? Paul. |

Mr. Yamanouchi in an interview months ago (maybe one year ago) have NOT confirmed the size of 2.5, but he have not ruled out bigger gasoline engines than the 2.0 and turbocharged engines ...."but not in short times ", had said
Especially with our prices that NA engine would only sell in a limited part of the world (North America). Seriously, Mazda nailed it with the 2.2 diesel engine. So perfect that i'm waiting to get a cx-5 no matter the bigger-than-2l displacement :) |
its "old news" to "us" who follow closely. its brand new news that they have just debuted the Takeri here in the US, that they have officially announced the North American car, that the Official 2014 6 debut will be at Paris, that the 2014 6 will launch early in 2013 in North America, That there is not another new car between CX-5 and Mazda 6 and that they are only announcing(so far) one engine at launch.
I actually thought the new MX-5 was going to launch between the CX-5 and Mazda 6 |

I still have find a use for a 2.5l gasoline engine when there's a fantastic 2.2 diesel option available. It's a sedan we're talking about, not a performance car!
still better than diesel, under 20k km /year. modern gasoline engines are FANTASTIC to use, and diesels generally have more reliability issues... |
