New toy!

Not going to lie: my new toy is pretty damned sexy...

It’s an inanimate object; not a person, but enjoy.

Thank you. I will.

I suppose I should feel good that you're back to your old conflict-seeking behavior. I was afraid that recent life events might have eliminated that aspect of your personality. I take this reversion to type as a sign that you are doing better and I wish you the best.

Me, every time I am at Mazda dealer:

Nice congrats enjoy and get an OVtune/Versatuner guys are putting down 180whp in ND-2 miata and ND-1 miatas.

furansu 06-11-2019 05:02 PM

Congrats! Launch Edition to boot, right? Looks like the previous owner had some decent mods (upgraded grill, KONIG wheels, etc); was it tuned with a ProECU or still stock there?

I miss my ND quite a bit, the RX-8 is fun and my wife appreciates the extra seats (and no car payment), but the Miata is a significant improvement on most fronts, especially fuel economy where I regularly achieved 34mpg for the same performance. All it really needed was a supercharger and exhaust to be the perfect sports car daily and with the Edelbrock setup, that is a reliable option. I am focusing on developing for the Ford Ecoboost 2.3 right now, but who knows, in a few years I may be able to slink back into an ND for 'development purposes' :D:.

TeamRX8 06-12-2019 03:30 AM

There’s no conflict in the truth. :)

NotAPreppie 06-12-2019 06:58 AM

The manner in which you use your personal truths is where the conflict arises.

I did the wheels, the PO did coilovers, GWR header and midpipe, grill, and OV tune. I plan to do swaybars, offset UCA bushings, OE LSD, diff bushing inserts, and some better pads.

Coilovers? You can's say "coilovers" without providing details!

BigCajun 06-12-2019 12:56 PM

It was a Monchie job

NotAPreppie 06-12-2019 01:19 PM

Heh...

They're MeisterR, likely their ZetaCRD product 7k/4.5k springs. They don't suck enough for me to change right away.

Loki 06-12-2019 01:45 PM

I have MeisterR's on my car, and a buddy on his NC. Higher spring rates though. Pretty happy.

NotAPreppie 06-12-2019 02:14 PM

Yah, they're good enough for the street but I doubt they will help me get the 3rd or 4th place finish I'm hoping for in my class with my local SCCA chapter (we have a big and very competitive STR class).

I'll be upgrading them later. For now, I'm taking care of the less expensive things like swaybars, bushings, and basic limited slip function.

BigCajun 06-12-2019 02:21 PM

If they came in LY I'd seriously consider trading my 8 in on one.
I'm really not looking forward to dropping a reman into it.
Old BigCajun is old.
:(

UnknownJinX 06-12-2019 02:26 PM

You can always buy another colour and then just wrap it.

I have seen a yellow S2 before and it looks like that's how it's done.

The vinyl alone costs around $2000 for the good stuff (3M or Avery) for a DIY job. I don't recommend trying to DIY it. A quality job costs around $3000. It is much more expensive than most people think.

I know it's not cheap, I am just saying that if you are really stingy about colours, there is always the option.

I don't care about colours when it comes to used cars as long as it's not absolutely repulsive.

Exactly.
I'm not spending that kind of money unless I get exactly what I want.
LY or something close to it.
Has to be a bright yellow, and not that sickly Beemer Babysh!t yellow.

NotAPreppie 06-12-2019 05:58 PM

I don't really understand your fascination with LY, BC. Personally, I almost passed on this because it wasn't Soul Red Crystal Metallic (which looks AMAZING in person).

That said, say the word and I'll take a few days of vacation and help you R&R your reman. I have a little experience... :eyetwitch

BigCajun 06-12-2019 06:18 PM

My first car was a Hiahleah Yellow '69 Javelin in 1976.
My 2 best friends had a yellow Trans Am, and a yellow Challenger.
I just think yellow pops on a sports car.
The yellow Ferraris and Lambos are beautiful, imo, and I've seen a Mercedes that blew me away.

I wouldn't have bought an RX8 if it wasn't LY.
Parked out front at the dealership a mile from my house.
Love at first sight.
Once I drove it, I had to have it.
I talked them down $3k, but I would've paid their asking price.

LY actually looks good, just too bad it's only available in 04. The only newer cars that come in a bright yellow I can recall are pony cars.

I think there is a lot of freedom in terms of colour choice when it comes to wrapping.

Inb4 200 says red is for women and Ferraris.

That said, Soul Red is darker, subtler and more elegant than Velocity Red(my 8's colour).

200.mph 06-12-2019 06:55 PM

some women, some look like shit in red as do all cars that dont have a prancing horse badge

BigCajun 06-12-2019 06:56 PM

Sorry NAP, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

FWIW, I prefer S1s, & VR is my second least favorite color for 8s after SS.
Everyone has an opinion.

UnknownJinX 06-12-2019 07:01 PM

I checked out a few S1s when I was shopping for an 8, but the S2 was just in the best condition. And that S2 was the only one in the area and in the GT trim, so it ticks all the right boxes. I wouldn't have minded a later S1(06~08). Early S1(04, 05) just has your typical 1st year problems.

I am not too keen on bright red cars, but I have grown used to it.

Maybe I should trade for Steve's GT.:suspect:

sinkas 06-12-2019 09:50 PM

I'll be able to post one of these "new toy" threads soon. I take delivery of my hideous new Bimmer next week.

[Bad Shatner impersonation]
Stardate 1234... 5... point 6.

Part of the ship... fell off and... nobody likes me.
[/Bad Shatner impersonation]

(Extra points if you get the spoof I’m referencing.)

New Mazda differential with Mazda cone-clutch LSD installed along with diff carrier bushing inserts and larger rear anti-roll bar.

Just need to install the bigger front swaybar and offset UCA bushings and the car will be as prepped for STR as I feel like making it.

Dang, that's a lot of detail for a diecast toy car... oh wait ;)

That is the CUTEST little tiny diff I have ever seen!

BigCajun 06-18-2019 07:23 AM

Nice! OVT (Matt) knows his stuff with the SkyG's. Sounds like a really good setup.

LOL - SkyActiv engineering efforts. The RX8 actually had a pretty strong differential, and so far the cute new one Mazda uses in the ND is holding up to abuse. It is the trans that was having issues (had mine replaced at 11,000mi) -- though that is meant to be solved in the newer cars, and my second trans never had an issue, up to 28,000mi when I sold the car.

NotAPreppie 06-24-2019 02:51 PM

Offset UCA bushings are in. Went from a max of -2.1° to -3.5° camber on each side of the front.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...7de8b9928.jpeg

I'm pretty much done modifying it... for now.
The only immediate change left is the hardware for AA/CP.

And, of course, we're in a short lull in the local race schedule so I won't get to drive it in anger for 3 weeks.

Don't think you'll need 2 grand worth of vinyl to do an ND. It's not terribly different in size from an S2000. My S2000 only needed about 300 sq ft. A 5x60ft roll of 3M Yellow is about $550.

I'd post pictures of my S2000, but every time I try to post (or quote) anything with pictures it gets stuck in mod approval limbo.
