Your funny!
That's an RX-8 with body kit. |
I thought it looked like a cross between the Kubura and a 2nd gen RX7.

The rims look like they came straight off of an FX35 and the headlights remind me of a 350Z.
|
can we all just be mature enough to admit that the rx7 is done for? its alright to let go...its alright to say goodbye and look at the fun times... but its time to move on now... its okae... everything will work out.

Not Best Car magazine, that's the JDM equivalent of Star magazine for hollywood gossip.
|
Poor RX-7 folks....still dreaming...lol, not very different than us RX8 folks...lol.
I hope we both get new RX's in the future. |
Wow! She's Beautiful!!!!!

:squint: ........................

Just build it already!!!

Not quite kabura, not quite rx-8, not quite Rx-7, yet it *looks* like an Rx-7!
Look at the slope of the c-pillar as it leaves the rear of the window and goes into the "hatch" glass. Every Rx-7 has had that, in one way or another. It's one of the Rx-7s "signatures" no matter which generation is being discussed. Gotta have that to have a 7. Look at the rear end -- that dog-bone taillight setup was in the FD, it was one of its styling fingerprints.. I could do without this, going back to round tail lights, as rotaries of old had. (And the rx8 has 'em too!) The proportions suggest Kabura platform. Who knows? Hard to gauge scale, but I think the blue renderings suggest a size similar to the FB -- and that's what I'd ask mazda for. Gimmie an Rx-7 with proportions and size similar, if not a touch smaller, than the FB, and try to get the HP:weight ratio to 1:10.. or better. 1:6 would be very entertaining, ne? ;) Actually 1:6 would be freakishly-fast territory. We'll sadly never see that from mazda, I don't think.. I'd settle for an honest 1:10. (250 hp moving a 2500 pound car.. yeah baby.) This is the first "rendering", be it from mazda or from some schlemiel out there, which actually has Rx-7 styling queues all over it. All the other ones I've seen had as much in common with the Rx-7 as a 747 has in common with a kid's paper airplane. |

I really hope (if there ends up being one) that this isn't it. |
it has the fd's door handle design
|
I'm more interested in that engine. Is that a new rotary engine in there? 350 HP??? Can you buy that engine and put it in an RX-8??? How much would that engine cost??? If the engine switch, costs around or below 5,000 dollars for 350 HP, it would be an out of the park homerun for Mazda.
The Kubura head lights look better and were more interesting. Hopefully, there will be a kit so you can get the Kubura head lights. Also, where do you put the front license plate? It looks like putting the front license plate on would cause issues for both the Kubura and new RX-7. |

Eww.
Just, . . . Ew. No way I'd buy that thing. Um, okay, it does have a nice ass. BUT THAT'S IT. Just to be clear :) |

New RX-7, if it ever comes out, should have pop-up headlights. It always did and I don't think this tradition should be broken.
|
it's not the new 7. at least i hope not.
|
The front looks like a modded Acura RSX body kit... with 350z lights.
- [This part deleted :D] - Mazda will never make 2 Rx cars. Why? They wont make money. If people would buy a new Rx7 they would be willing to buy an 8. If a new 7 had an engine then the 8 would be able have it too. You won't save much weight by loosing the back seats. The weight is in body rigidity and safety. Also, our weight is near 50/50. So, now you want to chop what weight you do loose off the back? Are there lots of people that would buy a new Rx7 but would not buy a Rx8? Same engine, and almost the same weight? - Finally, the entire sports car market segment is a niche market. Don't believe me? How many sports car do you see on the road compared to other cars. Not to many. Your lucky to see one among the horde of sedans and SUVs The Rx8 is in the ~$25k-35k segment. No one will ever create 2 products that will cannibalize sales in a niche of a niche market. The final nail in the coffin is that Mazda is already cutting back production of the 8? I'm sorry guys. I love my 8 and would welcome a 7, but.... it ain't happening. |
Build it and I will buy it just like every other generation. I think it's gorgeous personally. I'm guessing Kabura will be piston powered and I will applaud it but if it's rotary powered then sign me up.
|
it looks like an rx-8 and an fd and the kabura had sex, I LIKE IT, just massage the head lights a bit.
|
|
The rx-7 never seated four. Sure they had optional backseats but you can't even fit midgets in those things. I rather sit in a 3 gallon bucket.

I have always suspected that the kabura is and rx-7 in desguise, dont know why, but it looks like a modern rx-01 |

I can't read Japanese, but the 4th page seems to indicate that it'll retain the Kabura's 3+1 seating (cool!), come out for 2009-2010 (cool!), and weigh 1300 kg (crap!)
The reason the Kabura/MX3/RX3/RX7/whatever is so appealing is that it was originally announced at 1100-1120 kg (like the 1995 RX-01 concept and the current MX5). Since the RX8 starts at 1310 kg, I'm hoping the 1300 kg number in this mag is just speculation that ends up being false. Are you reading this Mazda? If you don't keep it under 1200 kg, don't bother building it! |
if they dont keep it light weight whats the point?
1200kg at most |
um... this is just some random speculation by some tabloid car magazine... who employeed some contract artist to photochop some pictures.... this is not from mazda or any official source. this is just speculation and wishful thinking dreamed up by tabloid car mag editors to try to generate sales.
|
you are completly right, but it is fun to dream and speculate :mdrmed:
|
Hm, I like how they're keeping the rear tail lights somewhat similar as the fd. That's what I loved about the fd's, besides the flip-up lights, and how short they are.
-Cody :smoker: |
If this very car surfaced with 250-300 hp, I'd buy one. The rear quarter view does look very FC to me. But why does it seem like no one will be happy unless a new RX-7 is comparable to (or outperforms) the FD? I just don't think that'll happen any time soon. But something with the spirit of the NA FB or FC based on the Kabura...
And forget the flip-up headlights on any new car. It's just not practical. |
Wow, I have been sleeping. When did pop-ups become illegal? I would love for mazda to come out with a new 7 that has pop-ups. It will be unique and different from the rest. This is one attribute I always want to possess!
|
something to do with pedestrian impact laws in europe
|
Not to mention the added cost, weight, complexity... with no added benefit. Headlights aren't standardized one-piece sealed units anymore. They can blend into the body aerodynamically now. There's just no point to flip-ups.
