New Porsche Boxster Coupe
1 Attachment(s)
This is interesting, Porsche aims at the 350z, RX8, Audi TT price class with a hardtop version of the Boxster.
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=1 Porsche is preparing the new Boxster Coupe for launch at the Frankfurt motor show this fall. It’ll likely go on sale in the U.S. in spring 2006. It’s also likely that it will wear the name “Cayman,” which will give it some separation from its convertible counterpart. Power for the standard version will come from a 2.7-liter flat-six engine developing 240 hp; a 3.2-liter, 280-hp six will power the S version. The affordable new coupe is going to be Porsche’s entry-level model; thus, it’ll go head to head with the Audi TT 3.2 Quattro, the Mercedes-Benz SLK350, the Nissan 350Z, and the Mazda RX-8. This photo shows an almost undisguised prototype during testing near Porsche’s home base in Germany. |
i rather take the SLK350 than that... even tho it's a porsche

This is an interesting new revelation. I guess we'll find out if its really going to be competing with 350z's and rx8's when we see the pricing.

Valmet in Finland will be building them starting this summer. (They also build most of the current Boxster convertibles). Don't look for it as a bargain P-car as "price competing" in Porsche-talk means at least several thousand more than the other cars in its class; it is a Porsche, after all ;-). My guess is a lot of these hardtops will find their way onto the track as people retire aging 944 track cars....

Here are some more pics and an article.
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...=Boxster+coupe These things should be a menace on the track. |
only when I am driving them ;-)

Yeah, the slow drivers are a menace on the track
hahah, j/k |
Hmm--according to www.automobile.com this car will be a serious sporting machine with 300HP. They are aiming to compile the best driving dynamics of the 911 and Boxster into one car--the production name may be the Porsche Cayman. If this article is true it will trounch all of those aforementioned cars (TT, 350Z, et al)

I like how Porsche is going back to the circular headlights...they look more Porsche-like
|
Normally I would say I would never want to own a porsche but they are really getting tempting with this one. Of course it will still be horribly overpriced, especially the S version, which is the only one that really matters anyway right. If they made a decent amount of them and didn't jack the price up it might be a halfway decent deal.
|
What makes you say they are horribly overpriced?
|
After you've driven a Porsche--the price really doesn't matter.

http://automobile.auto123.com/en/inf...py?artid=36024 From what I understand, that'll actually be a seperate car from the Boxster Coupe. Not positive, but I'm pretty confident. It'll fit between the 911 and Boxster, and kept naturally aspirated, so it doesn't hand the 911 its batooty. :p |
can you say Club Sport version as new track car ;-)
