New BMW M3 Road Test

Great video from Car Magazine

Sounds much better than the rattling-exhaust sound of the last M3.

Almost bought a used 2004 bmw m3 coupe. I always have loved these cars, but unfortunately bmw charges an arm and a leg for servicing. It will be a few years, but this car may be my next car after the RX-8. I just hope they solve the issues many reviewers are having with the brakes by the time I come to buy one.

Sounds a lot like MOPAR small block 273ci. The M3 is officially a muscle car now.

There are a few road tests out there now and most reviewers seem a little let down with the car. From the sounds of it, it's been watered down to appeal to the masses more. A couple reviews even say to wait for a CSL version.

Yep, the most criticism seems to be towards the turn in feel and the brakes. This is not something appealing with a car that costs 60k plus, especially a performance car that costs 60k plus.

True, however, I wonder how much of that is just them expecting too much from the car based on it's history.

Heh, yes, it is way more badass than my cavalier. I'd own one in a second if I had 60 extra G's laying around. I heart BMW's.

Me too. I'm just bustin your balls by the way YaX.

I guess... when the 2001 M3 was unveiled for the first time, there was currently nothing like it on the US market. The closest competitor was the Audi S4, a then turbocharged 250-265 hp V6. Now it's competitors have upped the ante a little bit against the M3, almost making you wonder if BMW raised the bar too much at that particular point in the time. Although... in terms of driving dynamics and sheer fun, the best car in that sports luxury segment is still the M3. It may not be the fastest anymore, but in terms of sheer driving pleasure, it blows away the Audi S4 and the C-class AMG model.

Expecting too much, maybe... but when you set your sights on the Porsche 911 and come up short, you better be prepared to reap the consequences.

I believe he was planning on saying "looks like an RX-8".

faboo 07-09-2007 08:38 PM

eh....

give me an e46 m3 over that...something special about an inline 6 beemer with great subtle styling with 330hp and 8k revs

Mech_head 07-09-2007 09:25 PM

The new M3 looks great, however it bothers me that the M3 has changed so much. It use to be a small light car with a screaming 4 cylinder. Now it has turned into a much larger v8 beast. While i do love how it looks and would drive one i think i would try and get one of the new 1 series coupes with the twin turbo inline 6. I would rather have a smaller more nimble car any day. Which begs the question, would that V8 fit in the 1 series?
