New BMW M roadster - experiences/opinions please...
Anybody test drove the new Z4 M roadster? How good is this car? There are quite a few of those sitting on the dealer lots around where I live. Looks like there isn't much demand. Dealers are marking them down. I am quite surprised to see this happening to a brand new M car...
wow, looks like nobody really cares about this car...
If I had the money, I'd own 2! I want the Z4 M Coupe soooo bad; looks amazing, sounds great, less BMW luxury, more of a drivers car. Y not meeee?!?! O ya I'm 19 and can barely afford my 8 ^^; I'd very much like to see what test drivers think... :D:
Edit: Forgot the "coupe" specification... |
z4 m coupe is one of the cars of my dreams :)
Yeah.. The coupe is much nicer.. Too bad the front isn't as pretty as the back.. I miss the old M Coupe actually..

new Z4M Coupe = pure sex! :Drooling_ z8 = yuck... i was never into it |
for the money personally i rather wait for the 400+hp E92 M3, or fork the dough for the SLK AMG 55, that car is superemly balanced and the benchmark performer of the high performance roadster class.. at least according to BMI

It's a fantastic car. There are many reviews about it out there. It likes to be driven on the edge of losing control.
I like it. It's a better looking car than the prev M Coupe, IMO.
Edmunds.com review says the clutch is very heavy and is a pain in stop and go traffic. Anybody test drove the car? Is it suitable as a daily driver?
Personally if I the money, I'd opt for the Cayman S
I'd go with the Cayman or Boxster for a DD or the 06 3.0si instead of the M coupe or roadster. From what I've read the M coupe is rather punishing.
I've had thoughts of maybe picking up a used 2 seat roadster or coupe once I've paid of the 8 unless I sell it for something else and the Z4 is on the list. |
I'm in the middle of this very perdicament ... though here in Canada you can only get a regular 2.7L Cayman for the price of the Z4 M Coupe. I've taken both out and the M Coupe is quite an animal ... it has more HP than the Cayman but feels heavier and less delicate in the steering and controls. The Cayman is much more driveable on a daily basis as the Z4 clutch is quite heavy. If I could get a Cayman S for the same money as the Z4 M Coupe then that would be my choice ... but since I can't it may be a the Z when my lease is up.

You may get more feedback on bimmerfest.com. I can't see paying the asking price for a BMW.
K dumb question, what do you mean when you say " the clutch is heavy" ?
Pick up an S2000 and get it FI'd. Even then it would be more reliable, and cheaper to own.

The M cars are pretty cool, but ownership is expensive. In the end, you'll need to drive one (in traffic) and see if it works for you. Check out some bimmer forums and see what they complain about. Ask your insurance company how badly it plans to rape you.
Good luck. |
What kind of discount are we talking about here? The M is over $50k. Even with a pretty big markoff it would still be probably be in the mid $40k range. Whereas you should be able to find an S2k for under $30k nowadays. Still not even in the same ballpark.

Any M will do just fine.

There's a guy in my town with one. It looks badass!!!! He also owns an Z3 M roadster with a stage 3 s/c. I got to drive in the Z3 one....maybe he'll take me out in the Z4 :D
