Mixing Acetone with Gasoline???
There was a link on Fark concerning the addition of acetone to fuel. There were many claims such as increased fuel economy, power, etc.
Here is the link:
http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/faq.htm
Anyone have any knowledge in this regard?
Is there any truth, or is it just BS?

I use acetone to clean parts in the garage all the time... Gasolene is just as strong, if not stronger, of a solvent as acetone. Gasolene is just "oily", where Acetone is not.
I don't think it will hurt any parts of your car, as all the hoses and tanks and stuff CAN hold gasolene, even a percentage of ethanol (Ethanol is nasty on organic materials, like rubber hoses and plastics).
The question of: "does it work" comes to mind. You would have to be running, in consistant consistancies, for the Computer to adjust Long term fuel trim to get the full benifits of it, and I don't see that as being a very easy thing to do.

Sorry, no. Chemically, acetone is a stronger polar solvent than heptane, hexane, and tolune, although it not quite as strong as ethanol. So I do agree that since most cars can run ethanol without problems, the worries about acetone are probably unfounded. Acetone is as soluble as ethanol in hexane. However, acetone is much more polar than any of the others, including hexane and ethanol, so from that perspective, it is a strong solvent against organic compounds (like rubber).
