"We recently reported that seven time Formula One World Champion, Michael “Schumey” Schumacher helped complete final test stages of the new Ferrari California. With past development involvement with other notable Ferrari cars such as the Enzo and 599 GTB, Schumacher has become a permanent fixture as a Ferrari test driver on and off the track.

Last week Ferrari had exclusively reserved the Nürburgring for testing of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia prototype, and our spy photographer on the scene noticed it was Michael Schumacher driving. Also, as co-driver he had his son, Mick, who seemed to be enjoying some quick laps at the famous Nordschleife.

Our spy photographer states that an hour later the track was closed after an accident was reported by the 430 Scuderia at Schwedenkreutz. Some rumors quickly emerged that its was Michael's son Mick who was driving the vehicle, but this is highly doubtful since Mick is only 9 years old, track conditions were damp, we can clearly see his silhouette in the passenger seat and the F430 Scuderia proto hit the guardrail at 250 km/h (155 mph).

According to Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm, "Michael called me and said 'We have crashed the car but are going to continue with another

Ferrari: Schumacher didn't crash the prototype Scuderia

Following yesterday's report that Michael Schumacher had crashed a prototype Ferrari 430 Scuderia on the Nurburgring, some things have come into focus, but little has become any clearer. Ferrari insists that, although Schumi had been driving the car that day, it was actually the factory's road car test driver Raffaele de Simone who was driving when the car hit the guardrail at 250 km/h. Photographs show that the 7-time world champion had been driving the car with his young son Mick – himself just starting out in karting – riding shotgun... with neither of them wearing helmets. Meanwhile, though the car is being described as a prototype, nothing about the exterior of the car appears different (aside from the Perspex sliding windows, and of course the "aerodynamic modifications" around the rear left wheel), and though the car was described as a right-off, the damage looks quite minimal for a 155-mph collision. Glad the driver was ok. Look like the car didn't suffer to much damage from doing 155mph.

Just because he lost it at 155 mph doesn't mean he actually hit anything at that speed. With the damage level of that car being what it is, it's pretty safe to say that most of the speed was scrubbed off by the time of impact.

kersh4w 07-30-2008 06:21 PM

yeah. that looks more like 30-40mph.

Very true , because last year at Sebring a IMSA Mazda spec P car was doing a 155 mph in the rain, hit the wall and exploded into nothing, his tube chassis skidded down the start/finish strait away with his right rear wheel attached, and stopped right infront of us, the driver walked away dazed and confused.

So yeah this driver must have grazed the rail at that speed.
