Mazdaspeed6 or Subaru Legacy GT? vote
I may be picking up a new commuter/daily driver. My requirements are 4 doors and all wheel drive, Im tired of white knuckling these NE PA winters and would rather not burn my vacation time calling in sick when it snows. Preferably used, Ive been buying used for 15 yrs now with good luck.

Didn't the speed6 have reliability issues, especially with the engine?
I almost got a leggy spec B. They are really nice cars. |
Personally, I'd get the subaru. I almost got one. You see a lot less of them, more unique imo.
The mazda has no real proof to be more reliable than the mazda. You could get an old wrx? That way you could at least have some fun in the snow :) |
As a 3-year owner of Mazda 6 MPS (a.k.a. MSP6) i've voted for my car..no issues, big engine and comfort if you want to cruise...BTW Subby Liberty it's not sell here in EU ...a damn good car too...

A friend of mine is picking up a Legacy GT tomorrow (05 model). The 05-06 models are pretty hard to find.
|
Let's see,
a car company that's been doing turbo awd for a long time or a car company that put a turbo engine and part time awd into an existing chasis. Yeah, easy call. |
Totally depends how prices compare. I'd expect the MS6 to be much cheaper, in which case I would definitely go for that.
If they are about the same, get the Subie |
|
Depends on price, miles on odometer, etc. What kind of prices are we looking at? I like both, but MS6 is too heavy, but not sure how much Legacy GT weighs.
On side note, the new Legacy looks like a Chinese knockoff of a G35. |
Speed6; I have one - they are fantastic!
Closest Sedan to the 8 in the comfort / handling and fun factor. |
You can't go wrong with either one... Although I have a slight bias against Mazda 6's, the Speed6 is Japanese built, and not an international mutt like mine was, so you'll likely be spared the crappy interior. I think 07 was the last year they were built, and wasn't that the last year of the 4/48 warranty? You may be able to find a good one with manufacturer's warranty left...
No personal experience with Subaru's, but they seem to have a pretty strong faithful similar to VW, who swear by them. |
yeah for looks and style and uniqueness i'd go ms6. for true awd, i'd go subaru. not speaking from experience, but they've been doing awd for a while now, and the ms6 is just a fwd car w/ transfer to the rears when needed. anyway, ms6 would my choice, easily, but i don't know how much of the "awd" is really a factor...

Head over to the Mazda6club.com and see what they have to say about the Speed6.
People who've owned one or currently own one can give you far better input than anything you'll find from the clueless. That's for damn sure. |
mazdaspeedforums.org will be a better bet if you are looking for information about the MS6. Most of the hard enthusiasts and modifiers are there, unlike mazda6club.
|
6crew.com isn't bad. Mazda6club is like a big lounge...
|
i got approved for 25k. was going to buy a 06 ms6...but i wanted a rotary.
i love them. theres only a few companies that have aftermarket support though..CPE being one the bad thing is about them...they break diffs. get a diff brace if you get one |

Subaru does AWD cars. That's what they do. For a single speed transfer case, AWD, car there isn't another company I would look at if that was the feature I wanted. There is no reason to. And on top of that the Legacy GT is a damn nice car. Boxer engines are the shit too. They sound so good. |
Easy vote. I've got 92K miles on my '05 LGT wagon without any problems. I bought it with 71K miles on the clock to be my DD because the Evo was becoming a little more "track" than "street". It's the limited version with power seats, leather, climate control, super moon roof, premium sound, etc, etc. I love this car. I looked at the MS6 (and the Mazda 6 wagon) but the Subie was the one for me. In the end I flew from the Bay Area to Chicago to pick up the car and drove it home over the course of 3 days. Very tough to find the LGT wagon with the limited options. It took me months. Car has performed great in wet weather and snow. I've taken to Tahoe twice and Utah once last winter. Handles really well. Better than it should. Also is very quick. At the risk of having my head handed to me, I think it'll out sprint an RX-8. Please let me know if you want any additional info.
