btw, those power ratings translate into 247hp and 280 ft/lb of torque

BlueEyes 02-28-2006 12:45 PM

I don't understand the decision to make a 280 ft/lb FWD car.

Zoom Zoom to the left!!

playdoh43 02-28-2006 12:46 PM

sounds like mazda's version of the srt-4

ZoomZoomH 02-28-2006 12:47 PM

it'll come with a LSD, so torque steer *should* be under control...

the article says 246 hp and 184 ft/lbs

snizzle 02-28-2006 01:02 PM

Judging from the MS6 that shouldn't be true.

the article says it. article also says its detuned version of same engine is MS6.
not sure where they got the info, but just passing it along.

Right, strange that they would detune quite that much as far as TQ is concerned but whatever.... it's Mazda. It probably is only 160HP anyway :mdrmed:

It has a Peice of Sh!t button. :p:

I think the next mazda minivan that comes out will have a factory turbo and shoots through the 1/4 mile in 13.9 seconds and slaloms at 70mph... (puts on flame suit) while the rx8 would still feel neglected.

its a mistake that is power in kw at 5500 as per the specs. the spec say 380 (newton meter) which = 280.273617 pounds force feet for T

As zoom44 pointed out, that is a mistake. If it wasn't, the engine would have to rev to just over 7000rpm at a minimum (probably closer to 7500-8000rpm, because it's unlikely that torque peak will be at 7000rpm for a turbocharged engine of this type) in order to make 246hp, which is something that we know isn't true for this engine.

snizzle 02-28-2006 03:22 PM

Barely looks different than the usual 3. I was looking for something a little more aggressive. Oh well....

Renesis_8 03-02-2006 08:40 PM

Very agressive under the hood =D.. 280 tq on a FWD, it'll sure be faster than civic SI(competitor), but dont know about its handling capabilities, but o well, everyone wants HP, and not care about handling anyways

So the next thing we'll probably see is a stock Civic that outruns the S2K?

The V6 Accord comes close enough to that already :dunno: Two very different types of cars, though.

khtm 03-04-2006 10:52 AM

Anyone else think that 6.1 seconds 0-62 is WAY LOW?

If the Mazdaspeed3 weighs anything close to the 2750 lbs of the regular Mazda 3, then with all that HP and TQ I think it would be a lot closer to 5.5 seconds or lower.

Definitely in SRT-4 territory...

Uh the new JDM Mazda MPV DOES come with a turbo. IT has the same engine as the MS3 and CX-7.
