Mazda1 to debut at Paris AutoShow
Mazda is getting set to unvail its new ultra mini City Car. Styling is said to be inspired by the Taiki and Furai concepts. Although Lars Van der Acker admits the production car styling will be more "toned down".
He spoke of a revitalisation of Mazda design based on the Nagari concepts, but acknowledged that his production cars couldn't be as provocative as Chris Bangle's at BMW, whose work he says he admires. "Mazda isn't a strong enough brand yet," Van Der Acker admitted. http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...ncepts/232740/ http://wot.motortrend.com/6245104/au...ris/index.html |
Hmmm, I didn't think Mazdas could get any smaller since the release of the Mazda2.
I bet it will look like a Mazda-designed convertible segway. :P I'd buy that. maybe. michael |
Our cities are full of this small cars but there are a lot of suvs as well and that sucks. It is like making a soccer player run into a middle linebacker!
Considering we don't have big roads it is a total waste of money and parking hanging around in a suv so if it will be ok i'll probably go for this mazda 1 as a city car. |

No Pics or even artwork yet. I assume this will be a Euro theater car with zero possibility of a state side manifestation.
It will be interesting to see the final design as I like to see how these mini cars are packaged and styled. |

I'm still waiting for the Mazda Scrum to come the US... just because having a car named the "Scrum" would quite possibly be the most awesome thing in the world.

"Mazda designers say the brand is "committed to" the brand styling and it will be used increasingly on new models after 2010." Hope thats a good thing. |

First Sketches of New Mazda1 Concept Emerge
http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080526....concept-emerge
May 26, 2008 1:00 PM by Clinton Deacon http://img.worldcarfans.com/US/2008/...526.008.1M.jpg Over the past few years Mazda has presented some truly breathtaking concept cars all following the “Nagare Design Language” including the Nagare, Taiki and Furai concepts. But we are yet to see the new styling make that step up to the production level. But now Mazda has revealed its first sketches of the Mazda1 – a new concept car which is set to debut at this September's Paris Motor Show which once again follows the same Nagare language and seems to have made a giant leap forward in terms of being ready for production. The new concept will feature Perspex panels with practical sliding doors and seats. Peter Birthwhistle, chief designer at Mazda’s European Research and Development Centre, said: “The finished article will be even more radical than the car seen here. It will be aimed at young people and feature the likes of iPod connectivity, sat-nav and Blue- tooth. It will be environmentally friendly, and weigh as little as possible.” Mazda also revealed we should also see a new Ford Kuga based SUV at the Moscow Motor Show in August and a Nagare themed RX-7 replacement is currently under development. |
i hope it looks better than that...

it kind of reminds me of the Scion Xa from the side and the c230 compressor in the back...
i guess that's cool??? |
On the design: less Hakaze, more Taiki

Probably true, but you can never tell, if there is enough public panic stirred up over gas prices and Mazda happens to be poised to produce "ultra-Economy" cars, there aren't many U.S. Manufacturers that will be able to produce them stateside anytime soon. After the election I have a feeling that there will be enormous pressure on legislators to change auto safety standards to allow some of these "Green" machines to roll on public roads. I am already seeing 'Smart" cars out in the boon-docks of bumpkin-ville Tennessee, I wouldn't bet against seeing a lot of these ultra compact cars on the roads. At any rate, I am interested to see what this precious little nugget ends up looking like. |
