Mazda to Unveil Updated Mazda6 Wagon at Geneva Motor Show

HIROSHIMA,
Japan-Mazda Motor Corporation
will showcase the world premiere of the updated Mazda6 WAGON at the 88th Geneva International Motor Show. The company will hold a press conference at 8:15 a.m. (local time) on March 6, the first of two press days. The show is open to the public from March 8-18.

The Mazda6 is the flagship of Mazda's passenger car lineup. The development team's goal for this round of updates, the third since the model was fully redesigned in 2012, was to enhance the daily lives of people who love cars, incorporating premium details and new engineering concepts and technologies based on Mazda's human-centered design philosophy. The new Mazda6 wagon to be unveiled in Geneva follows on the heels of the sedan model, which debuted at the Los Angeles Motor Show last November. The wagon adopts the same product enhancements and styling improvements, which enhance a look of maturity and composure and raise the quality feel of both the interior and exterior without sacrificing practicality. Both the sedan and wagon offer driving pleasure that suits the various ways each body type is used.

In addition, Mazda will bring two concept models to the show, both of which make their European Motor Show debut in Geneva. The Mazda Kai Concept combines next-generation technology and design to herald a whole new generation of Mazda cars. And the Mazda Vision Coupe is a next-generation design vision model that was recently named the “Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year” in France. Both cars debuted at last year's Tokyo Motor Show.

In line with its “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030” long-term vision for technology development, Mazda aims to use the fundamental appeal of the automobile - driving pleasure - to inspire people, enrich society and help bring about a beautiful earth. By offering an experience of car ownership that celebrates driving, the company hopes to enrich lives and build a strong bond with customers.

Mazda 6 WAGON may even make it to the USA as it will be available with the 2.5l Turbo (Only Auto Trans)

Again, I really don't understand MNAO and WHY they do not insist MMC Japan permit homologation of the Mazda 6 Wagon for the USA market,
if it is good enough for Australia then so too the USA.

It is not as if Mazda are selling massive numbers of the Mazda 6 Sedan, as they are not., and don't ask me why, IMO the new, new, new Mazda 6 can run up against the very best of the GERMANS and beat them at their own game, now there is a turbo and real refinement.

IMO having the Wagon WILL fill that void where Mazda owners DO NOT want to go SUV.

Want.

BigCajun 02-09-2018 04:38 PM

Yes, I would buy that before an SUV.

9krpmrx8 02-09-2018 04:56 PM

Yes just what I have always wanted a heavy FWD four cylinder wagon. A sport wagon it is not.

If the 6 wagon makes it over here, it'll be my next car instead of the buick regal tourx

Still better than most SUVs that handle like complete shit.

Most of the sports wagons are German. No offense to you, but I avoid German cars unless we are talking about a rental or lease here. The maintenance just gets scary after a while.

BTW the wheelbase of the wagon is shorter than the sedan, i own a 2.5 gas wagon since 4 years and i've briefly tested a sedan 2.2 diesel....my car feels nimbler, i think depends both for WB and engine weight (gasoline engine is lighter).

i'm clear....is not a sport sedan*/SW...but handles very well (from a european driver POV).

*i call sport sedan (or SW) : BMW 3series WITH Mtechnic option chassis, Alfa Giulia , Audi S4 (not regular ones)

So if they made it weigh 1200 lbs, you would buy it?
Or if it had a 500 HP V-12 and was still FWD at its current weight?

I still doubt you would.

Mazda is not a Sports Car company.
You need to look elsewhere for your high hp rwd sports car fix.

Marketing Team vs the Dealer Groups are what holds back Mazda in the US.

Mazda doesn't know how to market to the buyers of premium vehicles, and even if they did, as soon as those buyers show up in the majority of the Mazda dealers, the dealers will kill off any notion that there is a premium experience to be had.

Honestly, if you're trying to steal sales away from BMW and Audi, you might as well just forget it. Mazda can't raise the prices of their cars enough to be able to subsidize the lease prices that BMW and Audi give.

They should aim lower, and compete against Infiniti and Acura to start off.
Which means they need to change their dealership network.
They can't compete against Lexus, since Toyota now has a small ownership stake in Mazda, but Infiniti and Acura should be an easy win for Mazda.

Have a wagon - would buy a newer V6 or nicely T larger 4 banger RWD wagon if Mazda built it.

Diesels have plenty of problems and not more a big advantage in Co2 emissions terms nowadays. Future emissions will be even more restrictive

...i've seen in the equivalent of US" autozone" urea solutions (10 liters) in sale for refilling the tanks of modern diesels..more costs and complications....

Toyota is strong with its hybrid system , so they will invest on it.

BTW, i've read a news from Nikkei (translated) that Mazda is working on a 6L diesel, not sure if is a realiable rumor.

wannawankel 03-07-2018 08:31 AM

as 9K said, if Mazda wants to be upscale - put some oomph into the wagon. I'm sold on looks it just needs an inline 6 or Turbo 2.5.

C'mon Mazda - give us zoom.
