Mazda To Show Takeri Concept In Geneva

* Mazda Takeri concept points to future design direction for next-generation saloon
* Debut for Mazda’s first regenerative braking system, called i-ELOOP
* All-new CX-5 compact crossover SUV brings SKYACTIV technologies to European market

Mazda will unveil its Takeri concept car for the first time in Europe at next month’s Geneva International Motor Show. Mazda Takeri is a next-generation mid-sized saloon featuring Mazda’s new and unique i-ELOOP regenerative braking technology. It will be joined on-stage by the all-new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV – equipped with the full range of Mazda’s breakthrough SKYACTIV technology – the MX-5 Special Edition Spring 2012 (on sale as the ‘Venture Edition’ in the UK), and an array of new technologies, plus a production model line-up.

The Takeri is the latest concept to adopt Mazda’s ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme, bringing a new level of strength and allure to saloon styling. The Mazda Takeri offers a taste of the future direction of Mazda’s next-generation CD-segment saloon, further developing the vision of the Mazda Shinari, an exciting four-door sports coupe concept showcased at Geneva last year. Under its captivating exterior, the Takeri features Mazda’s highly-efficient new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine with a fuel-saving ‘i-stop’ system and six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission.

The Takeri aims for the ultimate in energy efficiency without compromising on Mazda’s fun-to-drive performance and handling. It is the first Mazda car to be equipped with i-ELOOP – short for “Intelligent Energy Loop”. This is Mazda’s first regenerative braking system and uses a unique solution that converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration and stores it in an electric double-layer capacitor. The power is used to run the vehicle’s electric components, thereby reducing the load on the engine and increasing fuel economy by up to 10 percent. This contributes to the Mazda Takeri’s outstanding fuel economy, which is achieved at no sacrifice to performance or comfort.

The all-new Mazda CX-5 is the brand’s first production model incorporating the new ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme, and also the first built with the full range of SKYACTIV technology – engines, transmissions, body and chassis. The CX-5 compact crossover SUV delivers outstanding performance and responsive, predictable handling as well as a high-quality ride and exceptional safety. Class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions come courtesy of the CX-5’s extraordinary lightweight structure and sleek aerodynamic design, together with the remarkably frugal SKYACTIV engines (all featuring i-stop) and fuel-saving SKYACTIV transmissions.

Mazda’s display at the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show will also showcase the company’s brand-new SKYACTIV technology as well as the full range of current models. Press days are 6-7 March, and the show is open to the public from 8-18 March.

Nice. Thank you for that.

Looks way better then the Accord. Love the sunroof and hope it makes it to production. Sucks it is FWD though.

Is this going to replace the Mazda6 or will they both be offered?

Making a rwd sedan wouldn't make sense. Trust me, especially in europe you don't want to go against bmw and mercedes. People still buy them over lexus because they're the "supreme" car makers. A mazda wouldn't stand a chance.

pdxhak 02-16-2012 06:19 PM

Still does not change my opinion on what I want in a sports sedan.

I really wish they would. The Japanese BMW instead of the cheap Japanese Audi.

This 6 is gonna be sweet though.

Paul.

That's a whole different look from the old Mazda 6'es. Anyway, i'm still keeping my Mazda 6, because the model year i have is the best looking 6's out there. :)

New Takeri Video from Mazda. Probably the footage will be running at Geneva in monitors around the Takeri display

nice video. now if it was dropped to the ground about 2"in.

that'd be the shit!! nice looking care with a mod or two...:smoker:

This may sound a bit obtuse but I'm not all that impressed. When (and how) did Hyundai get the jump on Mazda? Too little too late it seems.

They should follow Hyundai on this and make the 4 door like the Genesis and then have the 2 door like the Genesis Coupe...and RWD please.

It's pretty insane how well Hyundai is doing...Mazda seriously needs to step up their game.

pdxhak 02-21-2012 06:18 PM

Infiniti, Lexus, Hyundai and Cadillac all make RWD sports sedans. There is no reason why Mazda can not do it.

05rx8mazda 02-22-2012 10:13 AM

I like this car, but i will never own a fwd ever again... i dont like how they drive.
