Dammit! It's just a more refined version of the Nagare (which itself was based on the senku). I'd really like to see something different come from mazda.
That being said, it definitely looks more "finished" than the nagare does. Yeah, and this will turn a few heads: The DOORS !!!! More pics here: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-ryuga-concept/ |
wh...what? all of their concepts recently look the same to me. cmon now.

I am Batman! 'nuff said!

I want that display for my baby.. thing looks kinda sick in a good way. Nix the stearing wheel though, looks like it should be in one of those ultra future racing games.
|
The lines on the side are ugly, the black stripe on the back I last saw on a CRX, and the steering console I last saw on a cheap neon boombox at Best Buy.
The steering horseshoe is no way. That'd have all the steering control of pushing a travel luggage in front of you at the airport. |

The headlights look too Toyota/Lexus. Lose the hatch ass and we might have something.

I think Mazda's treating us to a very public view of their design process, which I think is pretty cool. I'm sure the final one they show this year will be an even more refined, more production ready version of the same car... and I'd guess since it's kind of a 4 seater sportscar, it's probably going to be the 2nd gen RX-8 (or RX-8 replacement if they decide to name it something else). I like where the design is going, the breadbox rear end is growing on me and I really like the headlight and taillight treatments. EDIT: Oh, I just read that it's FWD and has a piston engine... shame. |
Better than the nagare, maybe this is even close to decent. Or I'm just a sucker for red paint.

why have all the recent concepts from mazda had those HIDEOUS rear ends
come on guys, you can do better |
Though rereading the autoblog summary they say that the Ryugo "could" use the 2.5l FlexFuel motor but that may be just to show how it could be enviromentally friendly. I am also wondering what this is..."The car also features steer-by-wire technology and gauges that deliver superbly clear information to the driver."

Ryuga videos
So here are some videos of the Ryuga for anyone that's interested-
I'm guessing this is the video that is displayed in conjuction with the car intro. It looks a bit silly, really (the video). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmLbhrMwRk0 The unveiling- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-r2Oe-TMWc 2.5 liter, MZR, flex fuel, 6 speed engine. It looks REALLY short compared to a standing human. Homevideo of it on the spinning platform- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvGcgdeUWG0 I kind of like the shape of it. The dude that designed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05BMQVUUM-Q Notice the glasses are in the same general shape as the car.... michael |
Mazda keeps making these concept sports cars that are just design exercises.
I think they should do what Ford did with the GT - just design a new car for potential production, show it at an auto show, and if people start calling up dealers and asking when they can buy one, you know that's a car you should produce. |
