It amazes you that people want the looks of a mazda sports car but with a reliable engine that has room for serious HP gains?
I love the rotary but it doesn't amaze me that people want both power and reliability. |

I mostly just shake my head in amazement at people that expect Mazda to produce a production car with a p/w ratio far far higher than anything they have done before, squeezing every last drop of power out of an engine that has a worldwide reputation for poor reliability.
Even if they somehow pulled a miracle out and actually did ... no one asking for it in this thread would be able to afford to buy it. So they still wouldn't have what they asked for. 11-13 lbs per horsepower is where Mazda has historically landed again and again and again. Given the ND's weight of 2,300lbs, Mazda previously mentioning a scalable platform, the chances of a coupe being at least slightly stretched ... a weight gain of 10-20% is reasonable, putting it in the 2,500-2,700lb range. That would suggest a peak p/w of about 192hp at the lowest (2,500lbs, 13lbs/hp), 245hp on the high end (2,700lbs, 11lbs/hp). 220ish being the middle, and pretty reasonable. It would also have substantially more torque overall, especially low end torque, due to the presumed 16x dimensions of a longer stroke, plus a simplier intake that would likely be tuned for a lower range band, the higher compression SkyActive technology, etc... It's also amazing that Motoring still has any level of credibility in the rest of the automotive journalist world. Even the loudest braggart with the worst luck will eventually roll double sixes. |
Stock yes, but the ability to take that higher would be nice, like in the speed3 for example. They just did it to the wrong car IMO.

It's based on whatever scale you want :)
Lockheed uses lbs of thrust to tons It could be tons of TnT to grams ... :lol: I'm not using whp in those numbers because when talking about the manufacturing level, they always use at the crank. The whp p/w numbers would be corresponding lower. |

When you will look BMW i8 1.5l engine car produces 362 hp. Electric motors produces 96 Kw equals 128 hp and 250 nm MAZDA Brand New Rotary Engine for range extender 2013 330cc single rotor 22kW/4500rpm Compression ratio 10.0 Intake Port : peripheral port Exhaust Port : Single side port Test with Demio RE range extender by Rotary Engine. I am sure they will put these little rotary range extender engines to the next RX's for start stop technology, fuel saving and for emissions maybe at low rpm's this engine will work for fuel consumption. That concept cars design language will give tips to us long nose short back weight distribution needed. If they use aluminium block 16X with turbos back of the car will not give perfect driving feels so that tiny range extender units with lithium ion batteriers equalize the distribution. All of us know that this car will be RWD not AWD GTR 35's weight distribution is 53/47 and its AWD. I am sure that concept design will be hybrid rotary car. Hope will be. :bowdown: |
