Mazda RX-8 vs 2004 Hyundai Tiburon V6 (...Which one should I get?)

Dear Anyone,

§up, My name is Raijin, and I am so confussed on which car I want to purchase. Which would be the 2004 Hyundai Tiburon V6 or the Mazda RX-8. I'm looking for Performance, and Apperance. I asked soo many people, and its like 50 people says get the Tiburon because the American RX-8 sux, and the other 50 says Mazda RX-8....... Heck, I even went to the HIN (Hot Import Nights) and asked people there, and boy, what a argument with soo many people against the two great machines, and I started it!. So I would like to ask you guys which I should get, that will be worth buying, including with Body Kits, Speed, Tuning, ....etc. That will be a big thanx.

get the tiburon cause man I hate my car and keep coming back here everyday cause I hate it so much <i.e. your gonna always get a biased answer> basically a rotary vs. a tiburon- look at a ten year old rx-7 then look at a ten year old hyundai scoupe- pay attention to aging and quality- simple as that :)

stangmatt66 07-02-2004 04:03 PM

These cars are clearly in different categories. You're asking us to compare apples and oranges here. A $20k Korean import vs. a $30k Japanese import. Very different cars. Tiburon is a sporty car where the RX-8 is a sports car. Also, by posting this on a RX-8 forum, you will get biased answers. Good luck with your decision. I say RX-8 all the way!

Do yourself a favor that will endure long past this one decision: Spend some time educating yourself on the performance differences between front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive, and between MacPherson strut suspension and true shock absorber designs. Then pore over the engineering features of each car. Look at weight distribution, engine design, power to weight ratios, differentials, transmissions, and performance specifications. Compare brakes and steering design and historical antecedents. Really look at the two cars; don't just ask others what they like.

The huge differences between the cars will eventually emerge. Then your answer will be clear.

Definately get the tibby. its not even a comparison. The Tibby has a smoother engine, revs faster, its better quality, looks nicer, more fun to drive and handles AMAZING.

The Rx-8 on the other hand is a dime a dozen boring, slow, glorified grocery getter.

Outlaws eXtreme 07-02-2004 04:31 PM

Get the tiburon, it's a great car, you'll love it... all the chicks dig it. All the REAL car enthusiasts will choose the Tiburon... didn't you know? Hyundai in Korean means SUPER SPEED? Ya, and Tiburon means "Performance God" or something. So ya, get the Hyundai.

Feras 07-02-2004 04:35 PM

get the tiburon man, ihear they can hit 60mph, no one buys rx8s. im the only rx8 owner on my block.

Ktreece777 07-02-2004 04:40 PM

Tiburon Hands Down.... FWD that cars made for the track and the corners you cant go wrong with that ten year warranty also

This is a tough oneman --but I also think you shouldgo w/the Tiburon. It gets better gas mileage and turns heads everywhere. Plus theres an incredible selectionof body kits for the Tiburon which out number the ones they have for the Rx8. Not that the Tiburonneeds any bodykit w/its already dead sexy exterior.

chinx 07-02-2004 05:12 PM

lol

mysql101 07-02-2004 05:18 PM

The tiburon has twice the engine that the Rx-8 has, and plus it just looks cooler.

In fact, another cool looking car is the 1991 dodge neon. It remains the most valued sports car, ever.

tRiX8 07-02-2004 05:18 PM

i wonder what kind of people that said to get the tiburon? are they in their right minds?

Labop 07-02-2004 05:23 PM

After reading this thread, I need a shower with all of the sarcasm dripping everywhere. A coworker of mine recently 'upgraded' from a Cougar to a Tiburon GTwhatever V6. He still hangs his head a bit at lunch time as we walk past his car and get in my 8.

My (biased) $.02..., hyundai and honda owners NEED to purchase body kits for their car to have a better appearance. RX-8 owners don't.

Outlaws eXtreme 07-02-2004 05:25 PM

<ahem... sarcasm>.. ahem.. :P

Get the Tiberon. OK, there I said it.
It seems to me like you are just trying to justify your Hundai purchase. You probably can't afford to go up to the 8, so you start a thread to compare them - hoping that if people join your argument, then you can feel vindicated that it was a tossup between the 2 cars. In fact, you know that the 2 cars are in different leagues. Motor Trend comparo 8 vs 350z, Edmunds comparo 8 vs 350z, Car and Driver comparo Cobra vs G35 vs 8.
If you can afford the 8 I apologize and please, go ahead, get it. Me, I'm holding out till I read Road and Track comparo Tiburon vs G35 vs 350z vs 330ci vs S2000 vs SVT Cobra before I make my decision.

R&T would be insane to compare the SVT cobra to the tibron. The tib would slap the stang around. I can't wait until the next Fast and the Furious movie where they really show what the tib can do.

RX8_ML 07-02-2004 05:40 PM

OH Goodness, the tiburon for SURE. i regret getting the rx-8, gosh and HYUNDAIs are SOOOO cool *coughcough*
-now you can get, neons, and fart cans and woow theres a list of never ending mods... *coughcough*

Xyntax 07-02-2004 06:03 PM

Oh man, I didn't think anyone would ever stumble upon this question. From what I know, people get a Tiburon ONLY because they could not get an RX-8 or any better sports car. It could be insurance issues, cash, color preference, brand loyalty, etc. What's your factor?

By the way, RX-8 is NOT American. Check under our hoods and look for the word "america" there. Everything in it is from Japan. Ok, maybe the AC knob might be American, but big f'n deal.

The new Tiburon actually looks better than the older versions. But to spike those 50 people who talk trash about the Tirburon and the 50 who call the RX-8 American, get an SRT-4 and smoke their less than important opinions ;)

murix 07-02-2004 06:28 PM

I just did a quick search on NOPI and they are seriously lacking on parts for the RX8 while they have quite a bit for the Tiburon.

I would definitely take the Tiburon. It has more parts available at NOPI for a reason.

Enzolor 07-02-2004 06:57 PM

blksf8 07-02-2004 08:33 PM

hyundai for sure. they have a better slogan than "zoom zoom"....what is their slogan anyway????

oh now I remember, it's Charles and Kenny on the TNT NBA halftime show saying "presented by.....HYUNNNN DAYYYYY"

Phlash 07-02-2004 09:25 PM

To think...I could have had almost two tiburons in the garage for what I paid for the 8.........oh the shame.......why did I not drive the tiburon first?........I guess I'll just have to drive the 8 on the backroads so as not to be too embarrassed....
