With a CX-7 model, I don't think they will be making a next gen RX7. The names would be confusing.

LOL--I don't see how that is relevant at all to the RX7.

Mazda CX-7

Ok partial Re-Post but the CX-7 part I have not seen...

Mazda announced that the vehicle shown as the MX-Crossport at January's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Mich., will formally move from concept to production vehicle. Mazda also announced that the vehicle will be named Mazda CX-7, fitting into the company's global naming strategy.

"The addition of the CX-7 to the Mazda lineup is a critical step forward for us in terms of our ability to grow Mazda's business in North America," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. "In order to succeed, we have to be true to our core values and for any vehicle to wear the Winged-M logo on the grille, it must have the soul of a sportscar."

In Mazda's new global naming strategy, crossover-type sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) will carry the CX designation (CX-7); core vehicles will continue to carry the name MAZDA and a number, based on vehicle size (MAZDA/2/, MAZDA/3/, MAZDA/5/, MAZDA/6/); rotary-engined sports cars carry the RX designation (RX-8) and piston-engined sports cars carry the MX designation (MX-5, as will be seen on the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata in the United States). Tribute, MPV and B-Series Truck will continue with their current nomenclature.

The production Mazda CX-7 will pick up many of the design cues of the concept vehicle, and will be built solely in Hiroshima, Japan.

This has been discussed--even the CX7 nomenclature--but since the search function is on the fritz all is forgiven.

MX Crossport=CX-7!

Hey...just e-mailed Mazda to tell them that the MX was cool and to build it! here's the reply I got!

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

Mazda strives to build vehicles that are economical, reliable and
safe. It certainly sounds as though your Mazda RX-8 has exceeded those
expectations!

I have good news for you! Mazda has just announced that we will be
launching the MX-Crossport concept as a production vehicle in 2006. The
projected release date is still subject to change. The all-new model is
to be named Mazda CX-7. At this point, that is all the information
that is available. However, please feel free to check our website from
time to time for more updates.

We hope you enjoy many more pleasurable miles driving in your Mazda
RX-8!

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further
questions or comments.

I read that infiniti has yet another SUV coming and they plan to call it the CX35. I hope Mazda sues their sorry asses if they do, since nissan loves to do the same when any competitor has a name similar. Turn-about is fair, after all.
