More FWD boredom.

zoom44 10-24-2017 03:36 PM

what i like most about this is that it looks like Mazda has settled on a way to do panoramic roofs but retain the rigidity they want. and it looks cool.

Well, that's how they are gonna make most of their money.

Honestly, bashing on a car because it's FWD is a bit silly. While I am not into Civic Type R, it's proof that FWD is not bad.

Agree, FWD like the current Mazda 3 (BN) is light years better than the very first 80s Mazda 323 FWD and every model since.
The dynamics today really is impressive, you almost do not know that it is FWD.

more....looks more Mazda 2 in size with shorter hood.

acroy 10-25-2017 08:55 AM

Wow, looks great!

zoom44 10-25-2017 09:12 AM

the rear is vaguely like a lot of recent Alfa Romeos, but it’s well done, with panache.
hahah like an alfa but well done :)

Probably the best video just out on new SA-X SPCCI Engine.

ASH8 10-26-2017 03:46 AM

So is it a Glow Plug or a Spark Plug in the all new Mazda SPCCI engine.?

zoom44 10-26-2017 08:27 AM

spark

I'm not bashing FWD, I have owned (still own a 98' Integra GSR) a few quick FWD cars and driven many friends MS3's, Focus ST's, etc. and FWD is better now days but it still sucks in comparison to a proper RWD car. But we are talking about Mazda here and they don't do it that well, the MS3 is a torque steering mess. And I doubt you have driven a new Type R so you are not speaking from experience. Lot's of the newer turbo FWD cars are touted as being able to handle like a RWD car and it's complete BS. My friends Focus ST and another friends Fiesta ST both torque steer like crazy and I have read a few articles that state they handle like a RWD car and that is BS.

That I can agree.

And it's not that easy to get to drive a CTR, you know. Most dealerships won't teen allow you to sit in it.

Yes you are, but its okay.

We all know you're a Driving God.
We all know you live in Texas.

The Mazda 3 is not a driving enthusiasts car.
It is a mass market car meant for the average driver, who thinks they are a driving enthusiast.

You typically don't get snow down there, which a large enough portion of the US does experience, so those areas need FWD cars if they can't get an AWD version.

Most Americans are just plain BAD, Horrible even, at driving in bad weather, so a RWD Mazda 3 is not what the market needs.

Hell, you can't even get most Americans who live in the snow affected areas to install snow tires on their cars, so if Mazda actually did build the Mazda 3 exactly the way you want it, it would be a death trap to nearly 90% of the other buyers in the US market during foul weather.

What you really want is an MX-5, built with a small displacement V-8 (3.5 liter) that has a flat plane crank, and a 9k rpm redline. That would float your boat, good and proper.

BC.

The 3 Kai could be a drivers car with:
- power from a 2.5T (sport mode being insane mode)
- great suspension kit and brakes from the factory
- GT luxury package

akin to the Toyobaru BRZ/86 with a turbo and better suspension. Heck - also use the 2.5T in the nextgen Miata as an option.
