Mazda fined for fun

story-http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3715960a30,00.html

UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a complaint about a Mazda print ad showed that the MX-5 might be enjoyable to drive.

mike1324a 06-30-2006 10:21 PM

WOW! Fined for trying to sell their product and using images that describe the product to do so. I have no words for that. Its advertisement for cryin out loud, not an order. The sexual advertisements over in europe dont get fined for promoting sexual acts and could potentially result in an unwanted child or an std that could kill you. However mazda gets fined for promoting sporty driving in their sport product. Thats just stupid. Its giving a sporty car a sporty image, not saying what you should do with it.

ASA can kiss my ass. I think they should fine Apple for false advertisement first. Actually I think they did. but just not enough.

Everytime I see all these full of bull ads from Apple, I just feel sick.

Apple dont have shit original ideas at all.

Mac OS X? base on what again ? Stable? my ass.

2 Button mouse is so new. So think different (I can name more, but getting kinda lazy.)

alnielsen 07-01-2006 12:17 AM

You think they will mention this on Top Gear?

Raptor2k 07-01-2006 12:50 AM

LMAO @ nycgps, that was random but fit in. The Mac commercials are quite annoying.

Anyway, wtf m8?

Subaru pulled an ad a few years ago, when the wrx hit. It had two guys in the twisties, radio thumping out a good driving tune, driver says "This is my favorite part.."

Proceeds to cut the radio, dump a gear or two down, and floors it.

I guess supertouchyparanoidpoliticallycorrect bullshit is starting to spread worldwide.

Gee, thanks, Middle America, for making depictions of fun driving incorrect.

To hell with the lot of 'em.

What the guy in the scoob ad did, I do almost on a daily basis. A nice stretch of winding road, no radio, no talk, just engine, exhaust and tirechirp. I guess that's also viewable as being reckless.

It's the UK. What do you expect? They have a history of not making sense. It's just spreading over here not the other way around. Remember it was the British who were appaled when the Americans decided we wanted to use ambush tactics and be camflouged and fight from a well covered vantage point rather than stand out in the middle of an open field wearing red coats standing in a line trading gunfire during a war! The nerve of us for not wanted to line up and be shot! Someone name a worldwide successful automaker based out of the UK. No fancy half dozen sold exotics per year either. Show me a large car company made for the masses based out of the UK. They should spend more time trying to build a car fun and practical enough to be worth owning instead of getting on other people's cases who already have one. I think that's the underlying reason they've got a problem with ads like that. They can't match it.

hmmm just more proof that this world is going to be over-run and screwed up by people with sticks up their asses about everything.

Not if the slackers, potheads, gen-x'rs, gen-y'rs, etc, unite and kick the suit-wearing, $DEITY worshipping morons running this country out of office, *ALL* offices.

It's allready starting to happen in business -- slowly.. oh so painfully slowly.. I see more slackers getting into management.. once the slackers reach CEO level, all bets are off. Allready there are some slacker CEOs of note. Hope for the future.

Why CEO? Cut the BS, folks.. the folks with the cash to spread around run this country, not the government.

Another 10-20 years, and the suits will be history.. along with their repressed PC crap.

I hope. :D:

Then maybe one day you'll be able to see an ad for a fun car driven in a fun manner without having The Big Nanny come down on the producer like a ton of bricks.

SilverEIGHT 07-01-2006 08:39 PM

WOW! I bet thew would freak on the Ford commercial with a kid and his dad burning rubber in the Mustang and the dad tells him to do it again.

saturn 07-01-2006 08:50 PM

Damn Redcoats! At least we stole their national anthem and changed the words to be "America the Beautiful" -- that'll teach them!

Hahaha... this is off topic but thank god someone else hates the Mac commercials. I can't stand them. In fact they made me go from kinda wanting a Mac to not wanting one at all because I don't want to be associated with the stupidity of it. Oh man, I can rant about how stupid the ad is but that would be so off topic. :)

But yeah the Mustang ad, I would think, would have them going nuts.

They'd have to unite AND do something. Unless that something is "buy more pot", it ain't gonna happen!

Hope of what?

I for one would rather have my car engineered by traditional suits. I refuse to trust my life to a company of slackers and potheads.

I've smoked my share, and hung out with my generation all my life, and I've long since come to the conclusion that if you want something done at all, the suits are the ones to hire.

mac11 07-07-2006 11:40 AM

and just to let you know, its not the suits that make everything so bad. It is all the half retarded sue crazy red necks that go nuts on every little thing that they could possibly use as an excuse to quit living on microwaveable beans. It is the suits that just think up the rules of business and disclaimers to take the liability off the companies that they work for.

If America didnt ever start getting all sue happy and refusing to take responsibility for their own actions we wouldnt be living in this kind of world in the first place.
