Mazda Facebook Next RX

Mazda asks a question concerning the new RX on their facebook page.

At least it's something coming from Mazda!!!

lol so this confirms they are actually thinking about a new rx model :)

Rx8vsMalibu 01-14-2011 06:28 PM

I can't believe people are asking for a v6 in an RX.

Yeah no kidding... It isn't an RX if it doesn't have a rotary.

Things I wanna see in it:

1. 300+ stock horsepower
2. An option for true manual transmission with a clutch and shifter (just encase they think about only going with some fancy automatic with manual mode or some semi-automatic)
3. An exterior that has some resemblance to the Shinari, but with less edgy futuristic look. The 8 manages to look unique without looking like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie, and I hope the next generation does too.
4. Something to help lower the rotary engine failure numbers
5. A Mazdaspeed version

And plenty of other little things I don't feel like listing! haha

rotomaven 01-14-2011 09:34 PM

turbo quad rotor FTW

SayNoToPistons 01-14-2011 10:25 PM

It would be an MX if it had pistons...

Anyways, Mazda has always been a fan of entry priced light weight sports cars. I dont see them venturing far from their brand concept with 20 million gadgets which would jack the price and weight up significantly. I see them reducing the weight of the RX8 and having a possibility of keeping the suicide doors along with more powerful and efficient motor, the 16X. I would personally want a basic 2 door 2 seater, light and simple as possible matched with a 16X.

reddozen 01-14-2011 11:09 PM

3-rotor 16x and i buy it tomorrow.

fixed :evil_laug

I'd like to see a pure sportscar without the useless bunch of driving aids and cool options. 280\300hp NA and 100kg lighter than the rx8 would be the best compromise imho

Blacknightz 01-15-2011 03:02 AM

comes with extra radiators if needed to from factory to maintain the heat issue...

SayNoToPistons 01-15-2011 04:15 AM

Coupe form please

i'don't like facebook as only channel to speak w/Mazda....

why not a proper site ,maybe with registration? :dunno:

Pop up headlights and no AC. I'm fine with that as long as the trunk is lined with Italian travertine.

How badass would RX-9 Spyder sound?

bse50 01-15-2011 03:55 PM

Or rx9 'vert, like the good old fc3s days :)

Bigbacon 01-15-2011 06:55 PM

too bad I'll never be able to afford one until they are used...or gas will go sky high and I won't be able to afford to drive it...

I found this the other day..

To be honest, I don't want to see the next gen RX turn into a muscle car. 300-400 hp is too much. I'd keep it in the 275 - 300hp range via increased displacement (more torque) and keep the chassis light & nimble like the current gen. Also, I'd like to see a true paddle shift tranny with a pneumatic manual.

As far as the interior, this is a sports car. I'd like to see more factory gauges.

For it to be an RX, it must retain the rotary engine for me. However, no doubt Mazda will have to get creative to improve gas mileage. They should introduce start / stop technology that kicks in after the car comes up to normal engine temps. I also think they should revamp the ignition system. Seriously consider using a laser fired system The great weakness to the rotary engine is its inefficiently long combustion chamber. Using two sparks plugs is a band-aid on this inherent design problem.

arghx7 01-15-2011 07:44 PM

needs a lower priced (nonturbo) model to compete with the Genesis and FT-86, and a higher priced turbo model to compete with the 370Z

Completely disagree on just about everything you just said...

1. Giving it more power doesn't make it a muscle car, and doesn't keep it from being nimble... Just about all sports cars are starting to get higher horsepower, and if the next gen RX wants to be able to keep up with the competition, it will have to also. There are plenty of very powerful cars that are also "light and nimble".

2. If they decide to go with an option for a true paddle shift car, that is totally fine with me. As long as they still have the option for a true manual with a clutch and shifter as well... If I am going to spend money on a sports car, I want to feel like I am driving a sports car. And for me, I don't feel like I am in a sports car without a manual transmission... Don't get me wrong, I understand that the good paddle shifters work very well, and can shift MUCH faster than any human can, but I don't care. I'm sure that the cars computer could probably handle better than me too, but that doesn't mean I want them to take away the steering wheel haha... I would take the clutch and shifter over the shortened time shifting gears any day... Like I said, it doesn't bother me at all if they have both options, but it seems like more cars have started being produced without the option for a true manual transmission, and I REALLY hope they don't do this with the next RX.

3. I hate start stop... I am well aware that technology has gotten it where it works just about flawlessly. But I just do not like the idea of my engine shutting off every time I come to a complete stop, regardless of how well it works.... Not to mention, rotary engines use more gas than usual on startup, so having them shut off then back on every time the car comes to a stop would be bad for gas consumption, especially in situations where you are in stop and go traffic

Not trying to disagree with you to be an asshole or anything. I am only disagreeing with you because if the next one comes with everything you just said, I wont buy it haha... But to each his own!

canaryrx8 01-15-2011 10:54 PM

to me the start stop thing just seems like more wear and tear, what if you're in rush hour traffic in million degree heat? will your ride shut off every time you have to stop and wait for traffic, leaving you to bake or? Is it possible to turn it off or override it or? We don't need start/stop, we need better timed lights and more educated drivers, if we had these 2 things perhaps most of our traffic woes would be squashed since people might actually know how to yield, merge, might even actually know the speed limits in places etc. :D:

1. 280 HP is minimum acceptable
2. I agree
3. I'd rather have an exterior that has some resemblance to the Kabura
4. I agree
5. I agree

One thing is I don't think Mazda can afford to make it a two-seater. The Miata is their two-seater and it wouldn't make sense for a small company like Mazda to have another two-seater. So why not the 3-seat design from the Kabura, which I think is innovative? I think Honda made a costly mistake with the CR-Z. No one is buying it and I predict even in a year, no one will buy it. IMO, I think the number one factor is that it only has two seats.

HiFlite999 01-16-2011 06:13 AM

The new RX must be:
a) A true sports car with sufficient power.
b) Reliable.
c) Durable.
d) 27 mpg highway or better.

300 hp is not needed if the weight is under control. Another 22 mpg RX will also not sell in sufficient numbers to be successful.

neXib 01-16-2011 09:13 AM

1) Participated in the Facebook discussion.
2) Got annoyed by people wanting a MZR or V6 in general in an RX car discussion.
3) Got more annoyed by people saying the RX-8 isn't a good car (probably because of lack of "torque")
4) Got the hell out of it
