Perhaps an MX-7 for the 4 banger, or if this is to be a rotary a RX-7 maybe?

Probably just the CX-9 release....
This has been my thought from the beginning (MX7 for Kabura if it's piston powered) I will be shocked if the name MX3 is resurected.

My mom came home from her doctor's appointment the other day (has to have knee surgery Tuesday) and said she was looking at a car magazine (I think she said Road and Track) and they were talking about a "2007 Kabura" coming out soon. I didn't see the article and she didn't steal the article for me so I don't know what exactly it said. She just relayed to me what she saw. I don't know if she actually read the article or just looked over it because it was a Mazda, which is the only type of vehicle she says she will ever own.

I would be concerned if this new model is the CX-9...another SUV!, sure its slightly larger than the CX-7, but the way the price of fuel is (V6), and how the SUV market has DIVED this year worldwide, I am concerned about Mazda's thinking of releasing another SUV made only for the US market out of Hiroshima.
Mazda Australia I think will pass on this model.
There is a face-lift Tribute out soon, why they are keeping this dinosaur going is beyond even me. I think the CX-7 will kill it in OZ.
Would love to see another Rotary, but it MUST be a LOW cost model, cant see that happening either.

Too heavy, underpowered for my taste. Mazda 2-seater coupe should weigh less than the MX-5 unless it has a big honking suspension, wheels, and wide tires, which would need more power to compete in today's market.

Actually we do. Name one low-budget "4 banger coupe" with RWD.

I saw reports of a Ford Fusion coupe being planned... so maybe an MX6 will be revived (2 door Mazda 6)

If this "another car" talk is true, I wouldn't think they would be so super secretive ("like their life depended on it") if it was just the 2nd generation RX-8.* So, if it's true, can we hope it's the new RX-7 to truly compete with the Z?

*Some could make the opposite case that news about the 2nd generation RX-8 would harm sales of the current RX-8, which is selling OK in non-US markets, and therefore it should be super secret. Then we might even be tempted to hope for a significantly improved 2nd generation RX-8, but it's to soon for a true 2nd generation RX-8, I think. If there is a true 2nd generation RX-8 in the future it should involve engine development (at least direct injection, at most 3 rotor). But wouldn't it be cooler to debut the next advance in the rotary in an RX-7?

Truly compete with the Z? In what area? Torque? The 8 trumps the Z in all areas but torque & horsepower. The RX-8 has been preferred by numerous car magazines and internet sites over the 350z.

They shouldn't bring back the "RX-7" name. Remember, they have to think that consumers are stupid, so calling it a RX-7 and have it be quicker and more expensive than the RX-8 would confuse idiot consumers. They would either have to call it RX-10, or something like RX-S, RX-X, RX-M, etc. And the car would be around $40-50k, and have at least 350hp. It would compete with the M3, Corvette, GT500, etc.

And sales. Remember, Mazda sells cars not magazines.

I don't care what they call it, just build it.

.
though the 8 did score some major wins in auto mags, it doesn't exactly trump over the 350Z

You fellas are right, the 8 definitely didn't beat the 350z in sales. But do you guys honestly think that power/torque is the reason the 350z greatly outsells the RX-8? I think its the styling.

Don't be so shocked. Tons of Americans like the styling of the Z over the 8. Many middle-aged men like the "no nonsense" butch look of the Z.

I think it will be the new 6. The original 6 is starting to get a little dated and Mazda has said that the next one will be a little larger. It's about time for them to start showing the new version of their family car. Mazda makes more that just sports cars you know.

everyone realise this means they do have TWO cars to show? they cant skip showing something exciting at NAIAS in Detroit. They have shown somethign new at every major show this year. So by having a debut in LA one month earlier than Detroit they are saying there are 2 cars to show

Perhaps, but how about the (marketing-induced-buying) fact that there are so many more road test comparo and stories written about the Z in magazines and on the web because, among other things, it is a 2-seater and fits the category of a 'cheap import sports car', it has a std 6 cyc piston engine (safe buy), and it's more power-modable to high levels.

When was the last time you saw a good comparo of the 8 and anything? Long time ago I'd imagine. Out of sight out of mind ....out of buyers mind

IThe Zs angular brutish looks plays a part sure, but 'good looks?', humm ... personal taste, I'd call it distinctive anyway...just not very creatively styled.

There's talk of Miata (or MX-5 or whatever they call it now) with a retractable hardtop, no?

That was already announced in London http://img.timeinc.net/popsci/images...donas_ss_7.jpg

"Mazda MX-5 Miata Power Hard Top
Retractable tops are all the rage in Europe. Mazda’s steals no trunk space, operates in just 12 seconds (the world’s quickest), and adds only 80 pounds. The car’s jinba ittai (“fun to drive”) character is unaltered, and despite a rear-deck redesign, you’ll have to look hard to notice. "

itll be in the dealerhips two months before the show. so nothing to debut anymore with that one. they only have one "known" vehicle left to debut thatsthe new Mazda6. so that leaves the one unkown that me and rotary crazy were told about.
