Mazda CX-5 SUV back on the Drawing Board again?
http://www.autoevolution.com/news/ma...ing-22811.html
It appears this (or Similar) Smaller SUV designed by Mazda Europe is back on the Drawing Board....again...or it may just be Internet chatter... New ND Miata/MX-5 with SKY Engine also raising it's head.. http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/07/26...sky-g-engines/ Frankly, I can not see how Mazda can make the Miata too much smaller/lighter as it won't appeal to the US market?? I think it will be half an inch shorter and a half off it's width to justify the claim. SKY 1.6 and 1.8 Litre engines are the go... |
hahahah see thats what Matt and i have been saying :) mazda europe is still pushing for that compact s/cuv windsurfer mobile. MNAO want another rotary. each is supporting the other so each gets what it wants.
lets see what shows in paris after mazda's design meeting :) interesting thing about autocar thou- their article about the next mx-5 said it would be the first with anew sky engine while their cx-5 article says it will be the first with a new sky engine AND its pretty much a done deal that next year the 6 will offer the sky Diesel. i dont see how either of the next gen cars will be out before the 6 sky diesel. |
I don't think I've ever seen so much uncertainty in the auto world as there is now. Almost any brand...nobody seems to know for certain what's coming/not coming and all your left with is blogs/message boards/magazines filled with speculation. Very irritating when you're in the market for a new car and wondering if you should hold out for something that may or may not happen in a year or two.

Here in EU for Mazda Motor Europe it's easy to bet over che CX-5, i must confirm that Nissan Qashqai is selling like hot cakes....they need that kind of model to improve sales...
i've read somewhere that is planned in both 3 and 5 doors versions..... @ASH, maybe the reduction in size of mx-5 is not so big....few cm...but that makes the difference in the global apparence of the car.....(just under 4 mt , like NA) @zoom: frankly i don't see a new 6 for next year...they have just launched the restyled version this year here in EU....cx-7 could have a redesign...(launch january 2006 in LA) |
Matt...
I think I agree with you on the 6, just had a face-lift, another 2-3 years maybe??.. Sorry Charlie....;) On the MX-5, many Journo's are saying Mazda want to get the MX-5 back to 1000KG, well the NC is only 135 KG's over that, I just cant see where they will find that much weight without a severe compromise in Size...many guys or 6 footers in the USA already complain they can not fit, so they either make the boot or trunk smaller or shorter, front of A pillar will be no lower (in fact more than likely higher, or same)...will be interesting though...I like the MX-5 as it is... As for the so-called Photo-shopped images of the MX-5...take that with a pinch of salt...means NOTHING as NO one really knows yet... The CX-5..MMmm, I would prefer Mazda to make a Mazda 1, there is a market for a smaller car than the 2, but they are not a large money maker or have a lot of profit margin, they can charge a lot more for SUV's. :) |

:) yes, cx-5 is easier to do with profits in japan than a 1....and Ashley, i think a well made CX-5 could be interesting here in EU..peolpe likes that kind of cars, even nOT with 4WD...... They need to improve sales here....today here in Italy are selling well ONLY cx-7 diesel and 2.... |
i didnt say re-styled or new 6. i said new ENGINE offered. they arlready have said it on three occasions "the sky-diesel will be introduced into the US next year in amid sized sedan" or similar statement.

and i've just re-read a couple articles- the diesel is coming in 2012, not 2011 as i had misremembered. MX-5 redux is coming in 2011 and i found one http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...rticle1624694/ from canada that mentions the cx-5(not by name) as the replacement for the Tribute
as well as bring a new compact crossover to market to replace the current Tribute. The new crossover will not be a shared platform with the Ford Escape, which has been the case up to now. |

there are always the concerns about the "big" platform of Mazda (mazda6, cx7/9 and MPV) after the drawback of Ford (they will sobstitute Mazda platform with Mondeo platform for some Ford/Lincoln veichles). a completely new one ? Mazda will go alone? or use the Mondeo platform? EDIT: this news is strictly related IMHO http://e.nikkei.com/e/fr/tnks/Nni20100727D27JSN01.htm in my opinion Mazda MUST go with a more special product in this segment...the war against Camry and Accord is loose....same thing here in EU |
