Mazda 626 Keeps Quitting
I know we're here for the 8, but my 2004 8 is running perfectly so far. But my winter beater ( which still gets driven on lousy days) keeps shutting down. Can someone direct me to a forum that discusses 626 issues. I'll outline the problem if someone has an idea. Runs fine on cool days. When temperatures are high it will run fine then all of a sudden quit. Let it cool for 15 minutes, it will run fine for another 10 and so on. It isn't getting spark. It's a 93 626 2.0L. Please don't yell at me.
Any help will be appreciated. |

Thanks VERY much for the link. Didn't know it existed. I was leaning toward distributor but replaced cap and rotor first thinking heat would affect small arc tracks and possibly ground out. I appreciate the opinion- will search out a used one.
And thanks for not yelling. |
The CMP sensor is inside the distributer and as it heats up the sensor fails, hence the "no spark" condition.
and I don't yell. |
I don't expect that the CMP sensor is a seperately replaceable part. This is a whole distributor deal isn't it?

Thanks. Well said.

snap-on, my money is on it being the distributor also: FSO1-18-200 is the one. It's a hard one to find since it was only available in the 93 626, MX-6 and Probe 4cyl (also 5speed 94 models).
By the way, what's a CMP sensor? Is it the same as the ignitor because that's generally what fails with these. Best of luck Rick/Kimberly. |
Thanks guys. Appreciate the input. Turns out it is the distributor and also turns out they are hard to find. From now on, I'll keep my 626 problems in the group they belong in.
