Mazda has taken first and second places in a German reliability survey that analysed over 9 million inspections of 194 different models across 160 criteria.

The Mazda3 came first with almost no defects or faults, closely followed by the Mazda2.

This outstanding result gives the Mazda brand the coveted “Golden Badge” award from Germany’s TÜV Technical Inspection Agency for the first time.

The TÜV survey gives clear insight into the build quality and reliability of new cars, and is also highly influential with buyers of second-hand cars in Germany as it gives a clear picture of the quality and condition of vehicles of a certain age.

In the category for vehicles two to three years old, Mazda3 prevailed with a defect quota of only 1.2 percent, followed closely by the Mazda2 with only 1.4 percent. Coming in third and fourth were the VW Golf and Ford Fusion (2.2 percent each), and the Honda Jazz (2.3 percent).

“This year’s TÜV Report is further confirmation that Mazda quality and reliability is top notch,” said Doug Dickson, Managing Director of Mazda Australia.

“Our Stylish, Insightful and Spirited strategy is about building the best value drivers’ cars. It’s equally important to our customers that our cars are also world’s best for quality and reliability, and this award is proof of that.”

Wow.. and coming from a German group...

The Honda Jazz (Honda Fit in the US/Japan) which came in 4th is a very very well-built car. I had a Honda City (aka Honda Fit Aria in Japan), essentially the sedan version and it was so reliable. No problems at all and the maintenance schedules were very easy. I'd easily buy another one as a daily driver.

Go Mazda. So I'm guessing our 8s would be close in reliability if not for the drivetrain and flooding stuff? :)

It is not surprising to me at all, I have always know Mazda is one of the best in Relibility and I think Honda is that close it aint funny!!..

BTW: MNAO Best january In 14 Years!

Coming off a year in which its sales grew more than 10 percent, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported its best January since 1994 with sales of 21,212 vehicles for January 2008, accounting for a 10.2 percent increase versus last year.

Its about time you mob caught up with the rest of the world. Which has been breaking their Mazda Sales records for years..

they must be nervous as all get out in Irvine. Imagine the pressure they are inflicting on themselves let alone from outside, to get the launch of the new 6 right in a few months.
