Just some observations....

Notice the VVT Motor..appears Electric operated and not hydraulic.
Rear Main Crank Oil seal has gone back to a more "traditional" type seal, than the large "stupid' plate/cover type in MZR (Ford Engine).
Rocker arms and lifters (Back to Hydraulic Again).
New Spark Plugs

Perhaps for some this means little, however, to me it shows more information that has ever been publicly released.

So for NEW Mazda 3 FANS..what does this mean..

SkyActiv Engines are ONLY available in Auto Trans model with i-stop...6 Speed Automatic Trans (FZ) BTW

Yes, MZR is still available in 2.5, 2.0, 2.0 with I-stop (Manual Trans), 2.3 Turbo (MS3).
And Diesels..NOT Skyactiv.

This is for Australian Spec vehicles and I see no reason this wont apply to the US...
The UK (Europe) is the only region which has "twin" Batteries (see pic).

lol..

Hang on...you were not going to buy another Mazda!!

Remember mate..it is only a 6 speed Auto..in SA so far......

Wait until the all new 3 comes out in a few more years..it will have the FULL gamut of SA technologies, including their patented Exhaust Manifold which wont fit in current platforms (under hood)...see all new CX-5 (it will have it all).

Mazmart 08-22-2011 08:02 AM

The UK twin battery is so odd. The US skyactiv 3 has no i-stop shown in EPC at all.

Paul.

Oh, I forgot to mention, we are getting SA 6 speed manual here as well. Did I understand correctly that they are not offering that in Australia?

Paul.

yeah that twin battery thing is so weird.

see ? I knew US version not gonna get i-stop, it's too hard for ppl to understand these kind of technology, the idiots will be like "OH MY GOD! MY ENGINE JUST DIED AT RED LIGHT ! TACH SHOWS ZERO AND THIS i-stop LIGHT THING JUST POPS UP! MY ENGINE IS DEAD! ARGH !"

Not from what I can work out...

SA ONLY in new 6 Speed Auto Trans..with i-stop...for Australia.

A Manual i-stop is available but no SA...modded MZR (using 2.3 litre parts in a 2.0), like Timing Chain, Gears but still the Ford engine with i-stop (same in Japan).

So until further notice no SA manuals....but that could change any time.

Dual Batteries...silly, not really, remember UK and Europe do a lot more short distance excursions than USA and Australia, and a lot more stop-start, so I guess another battery helps in recovery.

Paul..more info..
From MA boss...

In the same month, Mazda Australia will release its first Sky-equipped model, the new SP20, that will be the headline variant in a facelifted Mazda3 range, powered by a high-compression direct-injection 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G petrol four, matched with the choice of six-speed SkyActivmanual or automatic transmissions incorporating a fuel-saving idle-stop function.
So release date of SA Mazda 3 here is October.

My EPC says differently on SA Manual Trans..and it still could be updated.

Paul, Can you PM me a Part Number of your SA Manual Trans MAIN DRIVE GEAR ????-17-201A

Mazda 2 WILL NOT get SA here according to him because of the Extra Cost, the 2's platform will still be around for another 6 years..all new gen 2 (2017) may not even use SA, even though Demio in Japan now has it...Dickson says the extra SA Cost is the reason..

Frankly, I don't believe him..or I just don't think he really knows...or has been decided.

Think about it..in 6 years time the 1.5 MZR Engine used in the 2 would be SO outdated (it already is), let alone emission and fuel compliance, I can not see Mazda do anything engine wise with Ford, so SA is ALL Mazda has....

I can post the shaft number here for you if that's okay.

Regarding the 2, I surely hope they will go Skyactiv by next year. The 1.5 was dated even when we got it in the US. I looked at it as money saving to bring the 2 as it was with old engine and old transmissions then but now, heading into 2012 if we don't get it we (Mazda) will be left behind.

Paul.

ASH8 08-23-2011 01:54 PM

Yes post it please...

Mazmart 08-23-2011 01:59 PM

Main shaft: C601-17-201

This is the only vehicle in the US that has ever used this number.

Paul.

ASH8 08-23-2011 02:05 PM

Then he goes on and says this..

Mr Dickson said that despite a bevy of all-new light-cars due this year, the rollout of Sky technologies in Australia’s Mazda2 would be “a more gradual process” than that of the all-new CX-5 and would likely echo the “soft launch” of power in this year’s upgraded Mazda3 SP20.
What a bloody contradiction!!..I don't call another 6 Years wait on an engine of already 6 years old (making it 12 year old) a "gradual process"......good grief and these guys run Distribution for Mazda...nearly as bad as USA....unbelievable!

I am REALLY more convinced than ever before these CEO's know Next to NOTHING when and what MMC are doing..until it almost happens.

ASH8 08-23-2011 02:11 PM

Nup...NO C601
Only
G601
G602
G604
G605
G611
G612
G613
SA manuals will be on next EPC update here next month.

Mazmart 08-23-2011 02:20 PM

One of the things I noticed during early research is the absence of an EGR valve. Some Skyactiv models use water cooled EGR so I was hunting it.

Paul.

SkyActiv is an on-going project, think of the SA engines we see now are SA Version 1.0

there will be better SA engines coming out in a few years. That "could" be the reason why Mazda is not rushing things out ?

but yea ... the 1.5 is really ... old.

IMHO are bulls**its for keeping high volumes of sales in short terms.

Yamanouchi-san have clearly stated that Mazda lineup will be 100% skyactiv-compliant (engines, platform and transmission) by 2015.

NO MZR after 2015.

the "last one standing " will be 2.3 DISI turbo. my bet.
