Manu-Shift vs Manual!
Hi guys,
I guess it's my turn to start this....who votes for this SMG (I think it's called) manu-matic crap tranny or a real manual transmission with clutch? Okay let's keep aside F1 cars, cuz I know response time is good - but for us who don't live 24/7 on the track and don't "need" the millisecond response time between gears....I don't see the point. I mean, sure I understand that sedans and luxury cars have this to get the "feel" of a manual and that's okay cuz not everyone wants to play around with a clutch, but on sports cars....I believe it takes away from the feel of driving when you are missing the clutch pedal. When I see great sport cars like the Nissan GT-R not even offering a manual tranny as an option and the EVO X which comes only offers a 5-speed manual while the auto has 6 gears, I get disappointed. What do you guys think? |

SMG/DSG boxes are true manual transmissions. They in fact DO have clutches (which if you were to look at a regular automatic transmission those do not) What's the difference? It's all computer controlled so it's faster, has less wear, less mistakes happen, and it's more precise. There's a reason the GTR only comes with a DSG 6 speed transmission, ditto with the Veryon with it's 7 speed DSG. Performance. And there are HUGE differences between those transmissions and the Automatic/paddle shifter in the RX8. |

There is no replacement for a clutch
I know the auto shifters are getting faster than the true manual shift cars now . . .but who cares. There are certain times when a clutch is what you need, and no automatic system will ever be able to have the same feel. I would do a paddle shifted car AS LONG AS IT STILL HAS A CLUTCH PEDAL. Honda already has a concept car that has a clutch, that you dont even need to use, but can if you want to. (same system on their 250 quads) |
