Looking at future 2+2 (5 door) sport fastback/hatchbacks

Did the RX-8 start this?

Ford Visos concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a four-seat luxury sports car featuring innovative technologies, and hinting at Ford's future design direction in Europe.

This is from the earlier 2003 Geneva Motor Show. Subaru's concept B11S coupe introduces a new corporate facial identity for Subaru. The four seater coupe design is conceptually close to the Mazda RX8 with a B-pillarless construction and rear hinged rear doors.

And here's the Opel Insignia concept from the Frankfurt Motor Show

Here theOpel Insignia concept again -- check out how the back door slides open _maybe Mazda can adapt something like this into the next gen RX-8

Toyota CS&S concept to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show

http://www.cardesignnews.com/autosho...css/index.html

Toyota's latest hybrid drivetrain comes inside an attractive open four-seater and not in a Corolla.

Some picts show it as a two seater barchetta. Only lift the rear canopy and you have an open 2+2.

bwayout 09-09-2003 03:37 PM

... And with Maserati's return to North America in 05 with the Quattroporte, its “car with two souls” and four doors appears in dealerships here next summer.

bwayout 09-09-2003 03:38 PM

Plus here's the BMW series 6 is a 2+2 too!

bwayout 09-09-2003 03:39 PM

... and the Mercedes-Benz Vision CSI from the Frankfurt Motor Show too...

mikeb 09-09-2003 03:40 PM

I dont like that toyota.

I think the ford and opel looks good

bwayout 09-09-2003 03:41 PM

And here's some more to think about ...

2005 Buick LaCrosse: An innovative luxury vehicle based the LaCrosse concept will replace the Park Avenue, adding cargo versatility to a segment known for large trunks.

MX-Sport-Tourer

And if the sources at Motor Trend are right coming for 2005 the Mazda Crossover: A crossover vehicle based on the MX Sport Tourer concept.

I hope Mazda does bring this out or maybe a real edggy aerodynamic fastback (3 door or 5 door) Mazda 6 hatchback!
Here's a pic from Mazda's own web site

I believe "ZoomZoom" had made a post a while back about the RX-8 would be the next Mustang with the creation of the "pony car" era...

Well, how does the RX-8 look, now?

Vroom for the whole family!

;)

Sorry - I can't help myself. I work in Advertising.

I remember that and totally agree with it. my wife even mentioned something to that effect awhile ago. oh, and the Mazda6 hatch? remember it's already out in europe and is certainly,IMHO, the 6 to have. if i didn't already have tthe RX-8 i would be looking for the 6 hatch when it arrives, supposedly this fall/winter.

http://sycomax.mazda6.co.uk/picturep...t/yellow_3.jpg

and if we can ever get it in the states the MPS 6 is just amazing!

Yeah, me too!

:D

But I'm sure in a few more days we'll be able to find more... after all the Frankfurt show doesnt officially start until September 11.

Maybe we have some RX-8 forum members in Frankfurt that will be able to go and post tmore pics?

;)

If not, I'm sure Mazda will post some on their web site in due time.

I aggree -- except I'm not able to get my RX-8 (or a MPS 6 hatchback) for a few more years until I can trade up my 03 MP5!

If I have my choice ... I tend to be in the habit of choosing my cars that have more of an aerodynamic fastback style (like my beloved 1990 Ford Probe or past 1980 Toyota Corolla sport fastback/hatchpack).

;)

Personally, I find that look more desirable than a normal coupe or sedan. Last January when I had to replace my Probe, I almost drove off with a slightly used Acura RSX but the new MP5 was cheeper and better suited for a family with 2 kids that need to be in the back seats in their car seats - and surprisingly I enjoyed the driving "feel" behind the wheel of the MP5 over the RSX!

:D

Hey anyway, in 2-5 years I should be driving an RX-8 ... but this wait is killing me!

Maybe Mazda will make a real edggy aerodynamic fastback (3 door or 5 door) Mazda 6 hatchback for 2005 (more like the roofline of the Opel Insignia concept)!

Wish it were true -- but ...

From Motor Trend - Designing the New Ford Mustang

The new Mustang's architecture is a clever variant on the same rigid, high-tech platform used under the Lincoln, Jaguar S-Type, and Ford Thunderbird.
