It is nice looking but I still prefer the 8. Besides having more HP then the Solstice I can also pack my kids around in my 8. Something not possible with the Solstice.. I guess I could throw one of them in the trunk:) just joking... I don't need family advocacy knocking on the door.

rx8wannahave 05-04-2006 09:38 AM

Yup, nice looking...but 2 seats aint enough for me either.

Rhawb 05-04-2006 09:45 AM

Haha, AND he got a truck right next to him! I swear that as cars get smaller, the probability for a huge truck parking on at least one side of you increases exponentially. It's the same idea with parking really far out in the boonies. When you park out there, the further away you are from civilization, the more cars you'll have parked on either side of you when you get back.

Anyway, nice car - it's a shame they forgot to give it a trunk because I would REALLY like to own one (or a Sky) as my next car. I just don't think I could live with the comically small trunk.

ac3mastuh 05-04-2006 09:46 AM

i have to say the solstice looks nice and all but two seats are not enough for me. BTW: I think the saturn sky looks so much better

zoned 05-04-2006 09:50 AM

I agree, the lines on the sky are much better. and If I'm not mistaken, it's only packing 178 horsies.

Nemesis8 05-04-2006 09:53 AM

LOL thats a Ford F350 Crew Cab Monster Truck Super Duty Lariat Whatever truck - it could smash us both!

I like the Sky better also, but the seats in the Soltice are really soft and cushie. He said that once the top folds up in the trunk, there is no room left in it. The RX8 clearly was an engineering marvel for space - thats for sure.

rx8wannahave 05-04-2006 10:23 AM

Yeah, the Sky is better looking...but I like the Solstice butt better with the Sky's face and interiror.

You know they are talking about a coupe right? It will probably be a 2 seater also since they are dealing with limited space.

What I would have loved to see, would have been a 2+2 larger Solstice/Sky with their 3.6L V6 making 270HP...all for 25K, sweeeeeeeeet. Heck...keep the Ecotec Turbo and keep it's weight down to 2700....sweeeeeet.

ZoomZoomH 05-04-2006 10:29 AM

I've seen both the Solstice and Sky on the road..... and frankly, in the flesh, both kinda underwhelms in the looks dept.... i thought i was going to be 'wow'ed' when i see the Sky, but I wasn't......

RX-8 much better looking than either one of those :)

XDEEDUBBX 05-04-2006 10:38 AM

I still would pick a miata over the solstice

BaronVonBigmeat 05-04-2006 10:43 AM

I still like the external styling of the Solstice better, but the Sky clearly has the better interior. I'm thinking specifically about the center of the dash. The Sky's looks like a normal car, the Solstice still has PontiacPlastic-itis, with that big fat Nike-swoosh piece of dull plastic.

You know what's really great about these cars? Even if they're well built, you'll be able to pick up lightly used ones for nearly nothing in a couple years. :D: Miatas are like that already, but these are GM products after all, so they should drop even faster.

canaryrx8 05-04-2006 10:46 AM

wow that car is small, look at all the empty space behind it where he parked

rx8wannahave 05-04-2006 10:47 AM

^Hmmm, maybe they would be a good daily driver since they get 20-28mpg...hmmm

ZoomZoomH 05-04-2006 10:49 AM

it's only slightly larger than a Miata, so yes it's a small car...

Nemesis8 05-04-2006 02:45 PM

Just got back from a ride in the Pontiac - keep your 8 guys. I was not that impressed. Maybe the Sky is better.

Nemesis8 05-04-2006 02:46 PM

No leg room at all. I'm 6'1" and I could not streatch my legs out straight. I felt like a sardine in that thing :(

Not to mention the lack of headroom. I was also able to see how much storage space is in the trunk. Its a pretty big area in regards to surface area, but its not very deep at all. And the floor is not flat at all because of the spare tire located below. With the top down, you'll be lucky to get 1 bag of groceries. There is only 1 cubic foot of space. Also, I would be concered about long term durability with using this as a daily driver. The front wheel wells are only a thin piece of plastic...very cheap. So, on most cars when you open the hood, there is a metal body panel there, in the Solstice its plastic.

They're the same car in everything but looks.

oreo 05-04-2006 05:09 PM

Also the fact that its almost $10,000 more than the miata (at least here in Puerto Rico) would make me pick the miata over it any day.

Cool-Blue-Dad 05-04-2006 05:46 PM

I saw one in blue on the road yesterday (ironic). Looks pretty sharp, but it's *just* a two-seater. My requirements are 4-door and (when I can get it) 4-seater so no sale.

prescriptionmazda 05-04-2006 06:22 PM

Correct me if I am incorrect, as I often am, but isn't pontiac comming out with a turbocharged version of it now?

tjbourgoyne 05-04-2006 06:51 PM

Does it still have the chrome vents on the side, can't tell from the pic. The styling is good but those vents are gimmicky.

Renesis_8 05-04-2006 06:53 PM

Did you ask him why he didnt get the MX-5?

are you sure? I thought the sky took after the Vauxhall VX220, and the Solstice was a different platform, unless all 3 of those share the same or?

mysql101 05-04-2006 07:05 PM

I've driven the Solstice around a track. From the outside - especially in black, it looks like a very impressive car. In the driver's seat, it didn't feel very special, in fact it felt and sounded like a low end econobox.
