Nice find, it reminds me of the older wankels and their peritrochoid.

Mazda are you listening?

Nice changes to the seal location.

Competition is good, another company making rotary's, not just Mazda now.

Well hopefully someone at Mazda see's this.

Interesting but without data confirmation it will remain a Popular Science article.
They make some rather bold claims and lofty goals though, I'll give them that much.

very true more proof is needed, I'm just hoping for any good news in the rotary world more efficient, more power, better fuel economy, longer engine life etc.

How is this RX8 Media News? This should be in General Automotive (Where geniuses post questions about their RX-8 :uhh: :))

Paul.

The next generation rotary... :dunno:

LiquidPiston has created a rotary engine that provides approximately five times the power-by-weight of a standard motor at almost double the fuel efficiency. It's a good tool for fuel efficiency. Though, there are some things that need to consider.

The rotary engine is awesome in ways, as it produces far more power per pound of motor than any type of internal combustion engine. However, it also guzzles gasoline, oil and creates a lot of emissions. LiquidPiston might have cracked the puzzle as to how to clean up emissions and get better fuel economy out of a rotary, though.

By making it a rotary "Hemi"....

How much boost can we give it, before it goes boom?

:dunno:

they are located 15 mins from me, Bloomfield CT ;)

Tell them to get started on the 2, 3 and 4 rotor models...

Mazmart 10-25-2012 07:06 AM

Have they shown a functional model running as yet?

Paul.

LiquidPiston Explains Ultra-Efficient X2 Rotary Engine - autoevolution

I really wish one of Mazda's corp technicians can have a detail look in this engine design. MAke them as engine partner, stop the wasteful R&D already (since this is already out).

Then, Mazda need to scale this engine up as much as they can (yet remaining efficient) to get that 400bhp. Since it's producing 40bhp right now, just multiple every variable with x10 times? lol..

scorcherjf 10-26-2012 01:22 PM

wow interesting paper... curious if the engine can maintain complete combustion under higher RPM?

also he mentions injecting water or oil for lubrication purposes... still another tank of something that the average consumer wouldn't want to worry about =\
