Lincoln Navicross stole our doors!

Of course they're not "our" doors, but go with it.

Those bastards, they stole our doors!

Rhawb 03-25-2005 03:50 PM

Looks like a regular 4 door. I think the only reason the doors are so well received in the 8 is because the rear suicide doors allow the car to maintain more of a sporty coupe look. I think in a car that looks like a plain old 4 door, people will simply find them as an inconvenience.

No More Oldsmobiles 03-25-2005 03:53 PM

Good point. I can't see the advantages of them in this concept.

GotZoom 03-25-2005 03:54 PM

They actually stole the doors from themselves.

1964 Lincoln

No More Oldsmobiles 03-25-2005 03:55 PM

True, but that has a B pillar.

Yeah, and the concept doesnt...But it's also got a sunroof that runs the full length of the roof. Wouldn't that be a structural disaster waiting to happen?

No More Oldsmobiles 03-25-2005 04:00 PM

In a car that size, you gotta wonder.

Ike, what do you mean "our"? :D

at work we have a ford courier (4wd extended cab utility) and it has our doors as well :)
it even has the same latching mechanism with no b pillar. it was released before the rx-8.
Mazda just raided the parts bin for the 8 ;)

BlueEyes 03-25-2005 04:59 PM

Boat? more like battleship, those doors look thick enough to serve as watertight doors between bulkheads :p

The original RX-8 concept was first shown in the 1990s. Better get some Robutussin.

(And yes, I know there have been other cars before with clamshell doors. And yes, if I don't say that some of the more "renentive" people here WILL get their panties in a bunch)
