LA Auto Show
Checked out the mazda section, not much to get excited about, no RX-8 to be found, so very sad. No concept vehicles, no new information not available on their website. Very sad.
In other news, Hyndai had a massive display, lots of cars and booth babes. Nissan wouldnt let people sit in the GTR, and the rear-end looks too much like a cobalt. Anyway, just a sad showing for mazda. |
Yeah I was there.. was pretty bad. The scion took a lot of spot light though.

No worries. Mazda has released more concepts than substantive production cars, and they seem to be focusing on the Skyactiv platform now. This is the future of Mazda, and the key to any future sports car. The success of the new 3, and CX-5 will ultimately decide the direction of the next performance car, so its important Mazda moves units. Those 2 models should sell like hot cakes in the US, and they have gotten nothing but praise in the auto rags. Now is a good time to be patient. Besides, if any concept of a future sports car is released, it more than likely will be at the Tokyo Show. Of all the JDM manufacturers, Mazda is arguably the 'most Japanese' of any of them. :beer05:

Not much going on with Mazda these days anyway.
Jeez guys give Mazda a break!...
Mazda are at the end of their decade gen-production cycle's for almost every model. In the next 2-3 years you will see all new Gen models that WILL be class leading... It has started with the CX-5... All new 6, MX-5, CX-9, 3 and 2. Possibly, possibly something Rotary... Also a MazToy hybrid Prius type...POS. But Yes, much depends on future sales success which does not look that great to any maker really. The world is in a financial crap-per. |
Well even if its a toy.....and probably far from production, the future is still alive for the rotary. The rotary has made a lot of advancements with those new Billet rotors going around....breaking new records... and now with titanium rotors..... Heres some pictures that got posted in the socal lounge, rx9 is mentioned, I like it alot. I will be going my self today so

No Concepts? Wasnt the Takeri there?
and what the hell is this and why isnt it in a box in a truck on it's way to my house? http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...28984803_n.jpg |
^^ Yes would someone please explain that?
It's just a artist rendering of a rx-9 concept. I had a pretty good conversation with one of the Mazda reps at the booth, and I SPECIFICALLY asked about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING rotary, and I was told that they have a 1.6 rotary ready, but the market is so bad that it WILL NOT be brought out until a later time, which I clarified as a few years from now. He said they hope it will be less time than the span from the rx7 to the rx8, 8 years, but there is no definite word. Also, the Shinari concept is not meant to be the next rotary vehicle, but merely a concept. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(
^ actually there was only a 2 year gap from the Rx7 to RX8.... 2002 RX7 Spirit R to the 2004 RX8. I give it no more than 5 years before the next rotary. 16x been old news for a while and so have Aluminum Billet rotors. With that help Rotary records keep being broken (1/4 mi, Time attack, etc), hidden power in design is being discovered and there is much more to be engineered with the rotary. Much more potential is still untapped in the rotary, thats why the a rotary has been banned (hated) from certain motorsports classes. We still are the only Japanese Manufacturer to win the 24 LeMans, and then immediately banned LMAO.

WHO's rendering and model is it? WHERE can we get more info on it? WHY is it at the booth? It doesnt appear to be the usual LA Autoshow future design thingy.

Artist rendering or not the fact that the term "RX-9" is on a piece of Mazda property at all is something to be curious about.
It's a tease....what else is written on it?
the model car posted by zoom44 has central engine IMHO.
exactly Fred on Mazda's stand in Mazda's colors and fonts with Mazda's logo
Old Rotor it says mid engine 2+2 hydrogen fuel and that bottom bit is "eco egoist" which i have google all sorts of variations of all of those and not found anything and yes Matt i agree its a rear mid engine |
^ sounds like its going to be expensive... $60k range, sure looks like it too. Porsche size car with a 16x mmmm and those looks on that drawing are stunning.
BTW, the style of that model is NOT "Kodo"...
dont get me wrong . this is probably some art school project or some such but its still at least seemingly "endorsed" by Mazda with the use of RX-9 and the colors fonts etc
I must be the only one who thinks that thing is ugly as sin.
But on the other hand, like someone mentioned, the fact that "RX-9" is specifically displayed on Mazda property is rather intriguing. When is Tokyo again? They just have to show the next rotary car this time, or I will be extremely depressed. |
Neat rotary centers on the wheels. They look like stickers.
Guys, don't blow this out of proportion. This display is from a art school that was a 5 minute walk from Mazda's booth. I just don't want someone to get the impression that this is the new rx9.
^ sometimes that's how things start or get leaked imo
I was disappointed to not see any of Mazda's notoriously sexy concepts nor the Hydrogen RE RX-8. With every other company rolling out their green hybrid egg-shaped monstrosities I was hoping Mazda would show off it's coolest green tech, at the very least in response to Honda's FCX Clarity showing up (which a hot model was more than happy to show me).
lol bcsos, what do you expect man, this is how we get by when we have no official news about a new rotary. They throw us a hint, we blow it out of proportion and we get slightly satisfied :)
