So I went to pick up an oil filter, come to find that the MOBIL 1 & K&N are made the same! Only the KN is $1 more. For those of you who seen the KN filter, youll agree.

So today I found out The Rx8 K&N oil filter is designed the same as the MOBIL 1 oil filter, only without the nut to remove it. Only difference is that the KN is $14 and the MOBIL 1 is $13.

Besides these oil filters I also looked at the others and would put them in this order.

1. MOBIL1/ K&N
2. BOSCH
3. STP
4. Mazda OEM
5. Fram Extra guard
6. Fram

Bullitt 08-10-2011 10:53 PM

Hmm. I never use the nut on the K&N. Maybe I should save a buck with the M1.

Just saying they are both the same in case one is not in stock whenever you go buy, leave me alone, I was bored.

nycgps 08-10-2011 11:26 PM

I use Mazda OEM ... and WiX ...

On this economy , a dollar less is a big deal. Anyway, cool story bro.

bse50 08-11-2011 01:05 AM

That's not surprising. What's their filtering ability anyway?

SayNoToPistons 08-11-2011 01:09 AM

Not surprising. There is a site (if you google) that has a giant listing and technical analyses on different filters.

ZumnRx8 08-11-2011 01:48 AM

Lol, ok sorry for throwing the $ factor but hey, I felt special finding out they are the same! Lol, at least I gave you guys a laugh for the day, because these forums have never been more DEAD.

LifeAfterRx8 08-11-2011 01:56 AM

Haha, that's good to know.

I just noticed, every time I go in for an oil change at my dealership, they install a Motorcraft oil filter, is that the same as the one Mazda uses? Because from what I understand Motorcraft is Ford.
