I love the car, but this is why a 997 will always be an enthusiasts choice.

wow, that sucks, atleast the gps wont be here in the states but i do wondering about the tuning ability of the GTR. there are wonderful machines out of the factory but hey, we all know that these will belong to car enthusiast that love to tune and customize. i wonder how customizable the GTR really is now.

Give it time and the Japanese will crack it

NaarLeven 02-27-2008 11:19 AM

mines already did :D

Once the ECU is crasked, which won't be long, tuning will not be an issue.

rglbegl 02-27-2008 11:58 AM

It is not that big of a deal.

The 350Z has the same problem, but it hasn't stopped them from changing the wheels.(similiar, not identical)
See ; The traction control system is set up to work off of a certain set of numbers to work a certain type of mathmatical equation to make adjustments to a certain type of suspension/wheel set up.
SO ................
Either keep the same size wheels and tires and the same suspension dynamics . . . . or figure out how to reprogram the stock CPU.

If a 14 year old kid can crack the Iphone . . .. I am sure the industries best aftrermarket companies are gonna do just fine with the Nissan

turbo swaps wont be easy either, everything on this car is essentially proprietary. Mods will be super expensive

xsnipersgox 02-27-2008 08:24 PM

problem with cars is as they become better and better and finely designed by engineers with phds to squeeze out every bit of power. small to medium aftermarket company won't be able to properly reverse engineer the car and to re tune the car much other than the A/F ratio, especially since it's twin turboed.

weight cutting though, it's always possible.

Shoafb 02-28-2008 05:14 PM

What would you need to mod anyway?

0-60 in 3.3 seconds.. what are you gonna try and shave some time off?

Cobb Racing already has a reflasher available for it. But it took 2+ years for the RX-8. :)

The car is super expensive!

Question is, why would you need to modify this beast? 3.3 sec 0-60, 1/4 mile mid 11's, top speed shy of 185. Ok , some aftermarket wheels , yes. But the engine, i could see turning up the boost to get better trap times, lord knows somebody on the Z-06 forums trapped in the high 10 second range in a stock 505Hp Z-06. So i guess you can modify the GT-R for that and the top end issue. But the next question is, where would you do 180+mph on US roads.

The Gt-R like the Z-06 is plenty of car for the average person, unless the person is going to turn into a strictly drag car, modifying it is pointless IMO.

USA GTR models aren't getting the speedlimit cap.... per recent coverage on autoblog.com
