Interesting Relatively New Mazda Turbo Rotary Patent

I presume many have seen this...but I've not seen any discussion posted about it. Mazda submitted a patent in Aug. 2015, which was publicly released early 2016 of a new rotary engine design detailed in a April 2016 Road & Track article: "Mazda Patent Hints at an Updated, Turbocharged Rotary Engine". Exciting news indeed ...if they proceed from R&D to development.

"The new design puts the rotary's exhaust port on top of the engine, pointing up, with the intake port directly below and drawing from underneath the engine housing.

This intake and exhaust orientation is spun 180 degrees from the traditional layout used by Mazda basically since the start of its long rotary experiment.... the exhaust-on-top layout provides a straighter, shorter exhaust path to the turbocharger, allowing for quicker turbo response and a more efficient conversion of exhaust heat into turbo energy."

Yes, I thought that m/b the case since the patent was made public 1Q16..., but didn't find a thread discussing it after a quick search. Anyway interesting R&D.

Can any of the old timers... post a link to where this patent was discussed on the forum? I'd like to read it through, but still haven't been able to find a thread discussing it.
