Infiniti QX56 has some interesting features...

If you havent seen one of these mega-suv's, here's where you can find them: http://www.infiniti.com/content/0,,a...-75031,00.html

Now, I know that this isnt the only vehicle that infiniti makes that has these features, but I know something that a lot of people probably haven't realized and that's how they work and why these features could prevent you from actually getting a speeding ticket!

Check this out:
Any infiniti model that comes with Intelligent Cruise Control also comes with Brake Assist. What this package does is monitor the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you and adjust your speed accordingly. They're laser emitter detector pairs with a pretty long range. What I found funny is that these emitters actually emit on the same wavelength as laser/lidar that the police use to read your speed and give you a ticket.

So this technology that infiniti is using to measure distance and the rate of change of distance (for their brake assist feature which prepressurizes the breaks in the event that the distance shrinks too rapidly) is actually emitting a laser pulse on the same wavelength as police issue laser.

My V1 verified this for me when I got in front of one of these bad boys and it just started going whacko. Laser laser laser always behind me. I change lanes, it's still picking it up but not as frequently. The QX56 got behind me again and it started going off again. As soon as he got off the road, it totally stopped.

So if you havent already figured out how this could prevent you from getting a ticket, then here's how: cops use laser/lidar a lot more these days to read speed because it's super accurate and hard to avoid. Laser/lidar is doing the exact same thing as the sensors on the front of this vehicle, sending out a pulse and reading the distance you move over a certain period of time. Distance/time= velocity, but what if in the middle of your pulse, you received a pulse back much much faster than expected? The laser gun would think you were travelling a lot faster than you actually were and bam, faulty reading. Or, it could receive intermittent pulses that would just totally blind it from reading your speed. Either way, this little extra that infiniti designed duals as a badass laser jammer.

I wish i had a QX56 and a police friend to actually prove it with, but i dont, lol and I'm not about to buy one of these expensive (yet nice looking) SUVs.

Just thought I'd share.

Oh and BTW, laser/lidar jammers are legal in the US because the FCC does not regulate laser usage. For some strange reason (probably medical), the FDA does.

Here's an overview of the tech. I found this on infiniti's site.

Mercedes actually had this technology before Infiniti--its called Distronic at MBZ. Me personally-I hate the styling of the QX56, the interior is nice though. If I could put the interior of the QX56 in the Armada then maybe I'd consider one.

Do the MB emitters use the same frequency as the lasers police use to monitor speeding??

it's also on the new infiniti fx..
i dont know about the MB laser emitters. i'd have to do research.

This car and its Nissan sibling are full of build problems. Why in the world would anyone get it? But if you do, always be sure of course to purchase the billet grille.

Believe it or not, buying one of these things is worse than buying an F-150.

That feature is pretty cool, but i never really looked into it. I should be using that feature more often on my fx :)

They probably need this feature because you don't want to be rear ended by one of these hogs. *stereo type warning* I've seen 6 of these on the road all driven by older women
