Question New RX-7 car length

How much shorter would the new RX-7 would be? Since it is going to be a two seater right? And since its going to be somewhat smaller than the RX-8 how much lighter would it be? Or will it be slightly heavier but with a extremely powerful and boost happy engine? :D

Please open my eyes oh Gurus of RX-8 Forum.

Anyways I'm tired and I'm at work all day. So I can't think at the moment. and yadah yadah yadah

it will be approximately 10 inches shorter in wheel base, to bring it to 94-95 inches: the traditional RX-7 wheelbase... supposing enough RX-8's get sold for the next 7 to come (which they will... oh they will...)

...the RX-8 is about 1300kg and change, right??
i wonder how low Mazda could make the RX-7 go... do i hear 1000kgs?? any takers?? :D

The 1000kg is the going rumour, bwob over at miata forum didn't really denied it either, he said the goal of making the Rx-7 lighter than the preceding model is progress.

1000kg (2200 lbs) does sound a little aggressive, since that's 600 lbs less than the supposed weight of the Rx-8, those platform the Rx-7 is based on. This car is going to be insanely fast!! Correct me if I'm wrong, assuming a 300hp engine, this thing will have better power to weight ratio than the Z06 and the 911 turbo!!!! I'm sure it's possible, I just hope Mazda can keep the price in check so that some of us can afford it in our life time.

how could that much less car cost more?? :O!! (kidding!! )

seriously, i don't think mazda would go too crazy with pricing... with the RX-8 as it stands, the RX-7 would be mid $30's up to $40k US...

if this car comes out with power to weight better than most exotics, i think they could sell enough to break even

... but bwob's on the 1000kg train too?? i've heard from friend of a friend of a... but good. :D

i'm sure that as long as it can pass crash safety standards, it'll be legal... how much does the Miata weigh?? certainly not much more than that...

i know that my 2001 spec Toyota Echo in absolute bargain basement trim weighs about 2200 pounds...

omg... thinking of my echo, slammed down flat, with nice wide tyres, a 300horse rotary, and black... *passes out and can't fin---

Here's the thread:

Good old bwob, he didn't come right out to say it, but he was responding to someone else's comment in his usual self. He also commented on the bigger engine. Good stuff.

im would guess the new RX7 would be about the same size as the FD. wheelbase might be longer though.

My FD is a bit 2cramp for my size... im six feet 85kg... but i still love the car...

i just hope the chassis of the new 7 will be a lot roomier and stronger than the previous tin can Rx7... :D I know mazda want to keep the weight as low as possible but it should not be at the expense of comfort...

i'm 190cm 90kg, and i hope they keep it just as small... when the RX-7 starts to make comprimises against speed is the day i'll stop loving it. the FD is almost a reason for living for me... to keep it light, mazda will make it small, and i like it that way.

in any case, the next 7 will be heavily influenced by the 8's structure, and many people have said that it's quite accomodating, even with tall seats which are designed to have the rear passenger's feet under them; without those rear seats and passengers, the next 7 would presumably have the same amount of headroom with a lower roof, or more headroom with a very simliar roofline... not to worry i don't think Mazda would try to sell a car made only for midgets

It depends on which MR2 you are talking about:

The MKI MR2's come in around 2400 pounds.
The MKII MR2's weigh in at around 2700 pounds.
If you meant the MR-S, then you are right at 2200 pounds.

*MKI and MKII weights are esitmates and will vary depending on configuration.
