Im sorry.

Yea i finnally bought my first vehical..Sadly it was not an 8. I went with my gut feeling and bought my lightning knowing that i would love this truck! Yes I do..I do have to agree that i dont get the ladys to look much as i thought. I know the 8 gets alot of attention but so does mine..but not from the right crowd..im talking 25-50 year old men..its not right.

but to make this short. I got a very nice truck, i love it but not getting the looks i thought i would be getting.. Girls say.."Nice truck! its got a body kit on it right?" D' OH!!! makes me want to be like..woman its more than your regular pickup truck.

Come on man don't be so hard on him. Hay, we all love cars so as long as he is happy with it that's all that matters.

GOOD LUCK FRED!

LOL :p :p :p ....not that there is anything wrong with that. j/k :D

Congratulations on the purchase. I agree with rx8wannahave - it's what makes you happy that's important. That said, can you provide some insight into a something that I've always found perplexing...

Among many types of vehicles, we have trucks, hotrods and sportscars. Each has a distinct purpose. Each category has several options and varying price points... So why buy a vehicle in one category that seeks to be in another; e.g. a lowered pick-up on 45 series tires with a big V8? You can't really tow or haul anything - the suspension won't permit it. It's basically a two-seater (okay three). What's the attraction when you can get a sportscar with the same utility that'll kill it on the track or a muscle car that'll kill it on the strip?

Again, congrat on the new ride!

I've always wondered the same thing since in Australia, we can buy this, except this thing actually goes as hard as a muscle car or sports car.

Must be something about the masculine/macho image of driving one I think. :)

Nice...... truck :o
Congratulations!

That's exactly right, why would you go with a car with a split personality. It does not want to be a REAL REAL truck...yet it wont ever be a sports car? With that said, I know you will love it either way.

Actually, I think the Lightning is known for retaining its hauling capacity while still being a badass truck.
From Edmunds.com:
Max Payload: 1400 lbs.
Max Towing: 5000 lbs.

Won't be doing that with a muscle-car.

Mugatu 11-05-2004 08:41 AM

Perhaps I should go to a Lightning forum, become a new member, and start a thread saying that I decided to go with an RX-8 instead of the truck....

Honestly, I don't get these threads that say they went with another car. If you loved another car enough to buy it, what are you doing here? And why start a thread about it?

I don't think he's bashing the 8 or trolling. He did consider the 8 which makes this legitimate. I think some inquiring minds would want to know what he chose. Stop the hate. The glass is half full.

That's just OK for a truck, heck...some minivans (I could be wrong) can do that...or is that SUV's...Hummm

Right, The truck is not actually lowered. It has a raked rear end and actually looks like it needs bigger rims to fill the wheel well's. The 5.4L engine on the lightest/best handleing chassic created the most power saving and oh boy can you tell it! Even though i havent hauled stuff around yet much it is capable of it. If it wasnt i wouldnt have gotten it.

The Bench seats you talk about..yes i have rode three people before and its uncomfertable for me because the person in the middle sits up just a little higher than me or the passenger side so i get alot more blind spots.

I picked the truck over the 8 because of these reasons:
Needed to haul ATV around in truck bed.
Needed to have the option of towing trailers
Wanted to have the best bang for my buck
Wanted style without sacraficing power

The 8 could not haul an atv
even if the 8 could tow a trailer i wouldnt want to add a hitch because i would think it was stupid
for a fully loaded 8 around 32 with areo package, navi and what ever factory options but still only came with 273horses..

Anyone who would hate on a lightning would be not saying the same things when they took a drive in one. The sound of the supercharger on a cold night is just so inviting when im sitting home at night. The day i bought the lightning, i went for a testdrive in the actuall truck i would be purchasing. My salesmen a longtime neighbor told me to hit it to hear the supercharger. Not only did i hear it and it put a smile on my face both of our heads floew back into our seats, him losing his shades from the acceleration.

Minivans. GMC safari's can tow that.

Chrisbert 11-05-2004 01:13 PM

But, minivans and GMC safari's cannot tow that one day, and run like a bat outta hell the next.
The Lightning is quick, handles pretty well (for a truck), and can still serve some utilitarian function. Not a bad package.

picosrx8 11-06-2004 02:53 PM

Congrats Fred. Forget the haters, I still come back to this forum after I traded in my 8 because I like the General Auto threads. Wait a few years and you can trade in your truck for a MSRX8 that has real power to match the style.

P.S. Is it a 2004? Are they going to continue making them with the old body style or are the working on a new version?

fredman69 11-06-2004 05:08 PM

The next generation is canceled. I have the 04. If i keep it in low miles..(going to be hard) my resale will go up in a few years. Incase all of you haters did not know..Ford owns mazda and has for a few years.

Speed-ER doc 11-06-2004 06:38 PM

Lightnings are badass, and will destroy most cars on the street (including our 8s)

0-60 in 5.2 sec and 1/4 mile in 13.7 at 101 mph (stock). You can make it quite a bit faster, and you can surprise a lot of folks not expecting to get beat by a truck. ;)

Nice pickup. :)

Jonjieracer 11-07-2004 12:10 AM

it sure would, there was this vehicle on the road yesterday and he was hauling a@*! the driver has that taunting look saying, "you can't catch up w/ me" of course I didn't try cause I don't want to get anymore ticket/I still currently have my atty. working on my speeding ticket but needless to say, that truck can haul a @#!*%...

Nemesis8 11-07-2004 12:21 AM

I once owned a truck in 1986 or something like that... Can't really remember ever lookin' cool burning rubber in it though...

Happy Trails
