I was always a big fan of the BMW M Coupe especially when they got the power increase in '02. Personally, I love the looks of the M Coupes, I think there is something raw and powerful about them. I have sat in one before, sadly no ride, but it was a pretty nice interior too. I am a big fan of the Z4 styling. Ever since it came out, I have been praying to the automotive gods for a similar vehicle.

I think it would be pretty sweet.

VelociRedBeast 09-23-2004 09:21 PM

first pic is iffy, but I like the second pic.

BlueEyes 09-23-2004 09:22 PM

Well, the first pic is the old M Coupe, the second the Z4.....someone put a roof on that thing!!

mysql101 09-23-2004 09:31 PM

the car looks so unhappy and sad.

I was a fan of the M Coupe as well. In fact, a used M Coupe was one of the cars I considered before I decided to buy the 8.

I actually don't care for the Z4 styling -- it's too angular. I prefer the Z3. But I'm open-minded, I'd love to see a Z4 Coupe!

It should be clear that I have no artistic abilities, but I think Bangle could do a much better job with it. I am sure it would be more sweeping if they did it.

TiRX8 09-24-2004 12:58 PM

The moment BMW comes out with a Z4 based M Coupe I'll grab one. That might spell the end of my 8!

Ouch! MY EYES! Argh!!!

Hey what was the power output of, say, an '02 M coupe? Maybe some Track times too (stock)? My step-dad is convinced it's faster than I Viper, I'm convinced he's on drugs.

i think theres a couple of model varients, but I'm pretty suure 0-60 is just udner 5 seconds , around 4.8 or so, I use to have a Z3 which is closely related to the m coupe , and that thing handled like a dream , only problem was the acceleration , not exactly fast :)

The M coupe was really funky looking, but I did like its off the wall style. They were great track cars, considered better than the M3 by some. However, the Z3 coupes in general never sold well. I recall seeing a black one that sat on the showroom floor for a year. So I highly doubt BMW would come out with a Z4 coupe.

Your closest bet might be the new 1 series. It's got some Z3 coupe funky styling in its genes. I've read that BMW North America might bring these over when they get the 6 cylinder powerplants. There are whispers of an M version (but they can't call it the M1, which was reserved for BMW's original supercar from the '70s.)

the '02's got the E46 M3 engine good for 315 hp and 250 ft lbs. I think titaniumgrey is right about the performace too

haha, I warned you!!

I think the orange one would look okay. Provided it wasn't orange. It has a nice GT style profile. I think the rear would look pretty good too, kinda like a Daytona coupe, KINDA.

rlfletch 09-27-2004 04:01 PM

I think all 10 or so of you guys who actally liked the Z coupe should write BMW. Maybe they'll make another one. ;)

BlueEyes 09-27-2004 07:12 PM

I was just doing a search for the 2006 Mustang Cobra and I stumbled upon this

"2006 Future Vehicle Forecast

2006 BMW Z4 : A coupe variant is rumored."

That is from Motor Trend.

Bangle probably saw my wicked MS Paint Coupes ;)

Anyway, I was thinking about it, Porsche is supposed to be coming out with a boxster Coupe so it would make sense for BMW to do the same. :)

:Fingers Crossed:

Feras 09-27-2004 07:31 PM

forgive me but i thought the M coupe looked a little bulgie. that boxster coupe looked like a 911. although im always a fan of powerful little cars....more competition= more zoom zoom....i love technology.

MikeW 09-27-2004 08:15 PM

Maybe the new flat plane crank V8 (400+ hp) from the new M3 plus 7 speed SMG + hard top. That would make anyone forget those semi-trailing arm in a heartbeat.

BlueEyes 09-27-2004 08:56 PM

I don't think the Z4 has the same semi-trailing arm rear that the Z3 did. I am pretty sure they redesigned it, I can't remember right now though. I will look it up later, but now...........must do solid mechanics homework not procrastinate on rx8club.com :D

BlueEyes 09-27-2004 09:34 PM

The z4's suspension:

Central Link rear suspension, a multi-link concept totally different from the Z3's semi-trailing arms. The Central Link is a large, curved longitudinal arm, pivoted directly ahead of the rear wheel's vertical and horizontal center point (hence the name) on a rubber bushing of highly sophisticated design. Each wheel also has an upper and a lower lateral arm, for a total of three links per wheel. The system helps give remarkable handling and riding comfort, yet is simpler than many multi-link concepts. Salient features include:

-Track widened by 29-mm/1.2 in. over Z3 models. (All recent Z3s had an exceptionally wide rear stance, so the Z4-vs.-Z3 track increase is not so great as at the front.)
-Increased negative camber angles, compared to the 3 Series, to enhance cornering ability. Z4s have 2.25° negative camber at rest, visible in a slight inward tilt of the tops of the rear tires.
-Extra-firm forward bushings for the subframe that carries the suspension system.
-Aluminum upper transverse links to help reduce unsprung weight.

Zaku-8 09-27-2004 11:38 PM

M coupe was badass. I can understand how people would think the styling was sin ugly, but I was driving behind it the other day and that angle is just awesome. Looks like what ///M would do with a backwards steamroller. To be honest I think its got better design than a TT coupe.

RotorManiac 09-29-2004 08:45 PM

A car modding store here in greece specializes in german cars.

One day I saw a 3.0 Z4 which was not three litres anymore... but it had an M3 engine in there! Car and store owner told me it has now the 340hp, goes really fast, but cost many $$$

It was like the Z4 in the pic. Nice.

GotBass 09-29-2004 08:58 PM

Are you talking about a coupe versoin or an M version. I would take the convertable if it had the current M3 333hp I6 or next gen M3 400hp V8. The current 225 hp 6 isnt cuttin it.

RotorManiac 09-29-2004 09:32 PM

I'm talking about neither. the car is a Z4 (convertible) with the 3L engine swapped with the current 3.3L 343hp engine the M3 has. of course the engine was not the only mod, everything else was changed to keep up with performance, suspension, brakes etc

it musta been his own doing, not sure, but the guy does some serious mods from time to time. I've seen some 350hp audis and some really bad-ass mercs there

m477 10-06-2004 02:46 PM

Just get a Boxter coupe when they come out... I'd take a mid-engine flat-6 over a front-engine I-6 anyday.
