I sat in a Hyundai Sonata and Azera for the 1st Time Tonight

I was helping a friend car shop, and just out of curiosity took a peek at the Hyundai Sonata and Azera.

Neither was on his list, but at any rate, I am mighty impressed with the build and material quality of both of these cars. Amazed, actually.

If the Azera had no badging, and I didn't know what it was, someone could EASILY convince me it was a Lexus or Infinity. It was a black one with black leather and the wood on the steering wheel and dash.

I can't believe how far Hyundai has come.

did you atleast shower when you got home?

RotoRocket 03-30-2006 12:52 AM

I don't know what that means.

He's implying that you should have felt dirty because you were inside a Hyundai. Probably not because he thinks the car is actually dirty inside, but just knowing that you allowed yourself to do something that was so morally reprehensible.

Ya know, like sleeping with your cousin or something. The shame doesn't wash away. Trust me.

RotoRocket 03-30-2006 12:58 AM

I'm getting old.

My back hurts when I get in and out of my 8.

The Azera was supremely comfortable.

I do not feel dirty.

Do you happen to live in Brooklyn, New York and suffer from severe ADD?

No.

That guy is an asshole.

I told him what I thought of him in post #95.

I love my RX-8; I'm just getting to be an old fart.

SantozRx8 03-30-2006 01:03 AM

lol, I guess he just doesn't see the humor in what either one of you two said

Also, you gotta understand where this comes from. Hyundai released some of the cheapest looking, biggest pieces of crap cars ever when they came to the US. While they have since made some huge strides, there's still a bit of a bad stigma on Hyundai. I think it was probably meant as a joke.

RotoRocket 03-30-2006 01:10 AM

Yeah, Hyundai has come a long, long way.

I really wouldn't be embarrassed to drive one.

The only thing I would worry about is the resale value.

Subtlety is lost on you.

You rule RotoRocket. :mdrmed:

I know what you mean about the Sonata. My local Mazda dealer stuck me with one as a rental for a week. The worst part was, once I tried it I kinda liked it.

Clearly they've made huge strides, but I can't shake the memory of the tiny, cheap pieces of junk that first washed up on our shores wearing the Hyundai badge.

When I get too old to get in and out of my RX-8 comfortably I'm going to hire a hot nurse to ride along and help me in and out of the car. Plenty of room for her in the 4-seater. :evil_laug

They've definitely come a LONG way. I'm guessing they'll be the next Honda if they can keep their reliability up. They've invested in a lot of process reengineering so that they can build cars cheaper using quality parts.

Yeah, Honda is exactly what I was thinking when I wrote my last post. How long did it take from that first itty-bitty Civic with the motorcycle engine (~1967? 1969?) until the Accord was a respectible car with a reputation for high quality and reliability with excellent resale value to boot? ~1989? 20-years? The Hyundais have been here about 10 years?
