Wow.. thats wow.. um can't wait lmfao...

quick_dry 08-23-2007 10:24 AM

looks like a curvy/rounded 8 with less doors?

tjbourgoyne 08-23-2007 10:45 AM

Thank you Mazda for using the "How crap gets it done" site for press releases.

RogueTadhg 08-23-2007 10:55 AM

does anyone else see the exterior concept for the 2010 rx7 a bit... well.. fugly?

As much I love the styling of the rx8, and opposingly hate the 350z design... I hate the rx7 design even more than the 350z.

SHOWOFF 08-23-2007 11:42 AM

Kabura?

Jedi54 08-23-2007 11:48 AM

interesting...

This article sounds like some one did a writeup including all the possible improvments that have been discussed on this board for the past 3 years.

*New RX-7*
Electric assist turbo hybrid.

Can you say +500lbs?

guys those are pics of the kabura

mtrevino 08-23-2007 02:52 PM

What. The. Heck?

maybe it's a weird grassroots campaign?

lone_wolf025 08-23-2007 07:53 PM

I'll believe it when I see it. Frankly if they borrow styling heavily from kabura I'd rather get the 8 instead. Also I doubt they'll "get rid of" the 8 but rather keep it as a 4 door/2+2 and make up a 7 that is lighter and faster. However, I'm leaning more towards an 8 being in the 2010 lineup rather than a 7.

If they make a really good rotary engine to put into the next gen, but have crappy styling, I'd be tempted to invest the time and money into a swap into the 8.

77mjd 08-23-2007 08:05 PM

...and the stated starting price of around $32k will not fly either. It has to be considerably less than that.

MazdaManiac 08-23-2007 08:09 PM

Kabura FTL.

I would think that an electric assisted turbo or supercharger would not be that heavy. You are just using a little extra electric juice at lower rpms. I'm thinking it would be more like the weight of an extra battery or 2. Perhaps some funky new type of very large battery. Maybe an extra 100lbs or so for the battery and "stuff".

If they go all out electric-gasoline hybrid than I expect extra weight, because then you are talking a whole bunch of batteries and other components. However, the rotary is a light engine, so there would still be an advantage in comparison to using a regular piston engine/electric hybrid.

I don't think they need to go full electric-gasoline hybrid. The electric assisted turbo sounds like it would do the trick for extra HP at the low end, extra mpg, and cleaner emissions.

playdoh43 08-23-2007 10:22 PM

in for 2

jird20 08-24-2007 03:59 AM

The article sounds to me like an educated and based-on-what-is-available-today brainstorming of the writter. No more. :icon_no2:

I wish Mazda resurrects the 7 with electric-assisted turbocharger or any other technological gadget, but not based on the looks of the Kabura. Too chunky and visually heavy (and probably heavy).

The 7, it is ever comes back should be light and visually light, stylish, a pure sport car with no compromises... hey! wait jird20, do not start here another "I wish the 7 to be this and that." There are already many threads about the topic.

Cheers

actually its physicaly quite light. slightly LESS than the MX-5

Floyd 08-24-2007 10:44 AM

Comparing the still photos and the video I think the video resolution distorted the dimensions a little bit. I have really liked the styling shown by the still photos but instantly thought it looked a bit bloated and stubby in the video.

Socket7 08-24-2007 12:33 PM

It's going to be a hybrid? That kills the possibility of it coming with a stick shift doesn't it?

Nope, the Honda Insight was available with a 5 speed. I got to drive one last week and it was about the slowest thing known to man.

Icemark 08-24-2007 02:18 PM

As I was told last week by my buddy in Irvine the RX-7 project (P027) is dead, and the 2nd gen RX-8 project is given the green light for the 2010 model.

So I call BS on that Kabura mock up that they are trying to suggest to be the next gen 7.

The 7 is dead.

tajabaho1 08-24-2007 03:08 PM

it better be.........if thats going to be an rx-7

please keep it dead

if ts going to be a new rx-8......................................no comment
just make sure u get a separate section for the 1st and 2nd gen rx-8

Nemesis8 08-24-2007 03:35 PM

The electric assisted turbocharged Renesis engine has been around since the beginning of the Evolve hasn't it? Hell, the '04 service manual shows turbocharger mounts as a part number. LOL

I won't buy the Kabura RX8, I'll just keep modifying my first gen RX8 thank you very much.

77mjd 08-24-2007 07:25 PM

To me, the 8 has an almost timeless look that could never get old. It will be really interesting to see how they change the body style or anything else cosmetic for the 2nd generation 8. I won't even start speculating about the engine.

DOMINION 08-24-2007 08:32 PM

lol its going to come with a 4 rotor!
