Honda s2000

what do you guys/gals think of these? Are they really as reliable as they seem?

I'm looking at one, an 05 with 78k.

I love mine. It's the most reliable car I've ever owned. 5.5 years, 30,000 miles, 20+ track days, 50+ autocrosses and not one problem.

I have an '02 with 55,000 miles on it. It's not my daily, the RX-8 is.

If you can deal with the small interior size, it's an excellent car. The 2.2L s2000 powertrain in the RX-8 would be the best all-around car ever, in my opinion.

The Reverend Oct 12, 2011 04:51 PM

yeah it'll be reliable if the previous owner(s) kept up with the maintenance. They can also put down a good deal of power on stock internals if you want to boost it. make sure you do some research on the different years as honda was making changes every year.

good car, make sure you can live with the size

I used to like them, but it seems so small to me. Plus, i have a family that would not fit in it...lol

I do agree! I don't think I wood ever sale my Rx8, but if Mazda wood do this combination, I do have to say, I wood be the first one in line to trade in Angelica!

Please don't tell her I said this, because I will denied it, Lol

That statement above just mashed my brain up... "wood"?

LifeAfterRx8 Oct 13, 2011 01:21 AM

They're great cars but I just can't stand the sound of a VTEC.

Supernaut6 Oct 13, 2011 08:12 AM

Great platform to boost on.

I'm no expert on S2000 reliability but I know they have their share of failures as well and they commonly use a quart of oil every 1000 miles with spirited driving.

I think it can be prepped to take more FI use and abuse than a renny but otherwise my preference is definitely with the smooth rotary.

As long as the S2000 has been well cared for, I think it would be reliable. The S2000 seems to have attracted a lot of ricers - I tend to like to buy un-modded cars.

I still think the car looks sharp. The exterior is simple and classic. The interior, unfortunately, looks dated with the odd instruments. Too bad Honda didn't just stick to normal dials for everything.

And too bad Honda doesn't make anything like it nowadays.

+1

The S2000 is a great platform, but like any car it's not perfect. Do your research and decide from there.

Bigbacon Oct 17, 2011 09:37 PM

I am sorta flip flopping all over the place. Tried out a 03 Z4 on a whim, that was loaded and I actually found it to be a much more enjoyable car than the Miata and close to the s2000. I like the little creature comforts the Z4 had, plus the bigger boot (which means I could use it for longer trips)

least from my limited test drives so far, it seems on par with the 2000.

I don't plan to track or auto cross whatever convertible I end up with, I have my toy for that.

IMO driving a s2k was like driving any other honda, to me all hondas drive the same.

I really have to question your judgement here. If you're talking about the actually driving feel, then you have no clue what you're talking about. It's definitely not the same as any civic. The drivetrain layout alone will give different driving characteristics.

thats my opinion coming from a back ground thats used to drive and ride in hondas like these.the way the s2k handles maybe a bit better and over all driving experience for me feels the same and there for, FOR ME,IMO it makes the s2k seem no different to any other honda. Attachment 239818

OH NO.;)..Not a quart of Oil Every 1000 miles...how quirky!!!....and it is not an Oil Guzzlin Rotary!!..

Tell that to the ignorant motoring public and press who continue to whine about Rotary oil use.
