Its actually "only" 77 MPG with the size of gallons in the US, but still, damn man, damn.

If you think that's a great number, check out the Opel Eco Speedster:

113 mpg (yes, US Gallons) or 2.5l on 100 km.

http://www.cardesignnews.com/autosho...-ecospeedster/

It's a 4 cyl diesel as well. The Eco Speedster was presented already 2 years ago!

Unfortunately not avail for purchase.

Amazing... makes the current line of Hybrids look like a pile of puke.

Not too surprising, since diesel has more energy per volume than gasoline (petrol). I can see diesel-electric hybrids becoming the future of automotive power before (if we ever get to) fuel cells. We probably be seeing more diesel-powered sedans here in the US once we move to sulphur-free diesel fuel.

Hmm... can the rotary be adapted to burn diesel? That would be an interesting project....

Wow... look at the numbers. Don't let the 1/4 mile speed fool you, that is the AVERAGE speed in the 1/4 mile from a standing start. With an average speed of 54.198 MPH, the Accord did the 1/4 mile in 16.61 seconds!

Not bad! And gets 70+ MPG in more sane driving conditions.

Heh 1/4 mile in 16 seconds, that's the same time as the new Chevrolet SSR (according to Edmund's).

It has been done, I don't remember when or who but I know it has been done.

I've read of rotaries succesfully running on ultra low octane gas (<70 octane), diesel, airplane fuel, alcohol, hydrogen and who knows what else
