I'm sick... Can't get my mind off the FRS. I wan't one the more I think about it. :crying:

Thanks for being so kind. Sorry I started a thread in the general automotive section about a general automotive topic about a car I think is a great platform for owning and modifying. If this thread does not belong here I would gladly encourage a moderator to delete it or move it to the lounge.

I also had the fever until I sat in one. Seriously, sit in one and tap the interior with your fingers. Everything rattles, especially the rear deck. The dashboard and AC controls look older than the ones in my old 1996 Galant. No joke. It really does.

My R3 is relatively rattle free (unless it's cold outside) after 3 years. I think it looks better too when you see them parked side by side. Also, I have a 2012 Flagship JVC Navigation installed, while the FRS needs an iPhone + App that is slow and unresponsive as hell to get Navigation features.

Also, I haven't driven one, but as a passenger, the FRS feels anemic as hell at highway speeds. Can't really be sure until I get a test drive.

Seriously, before you go put yourself in debt for something not any better than your current car, sit in one and think about how it will be after a few months.

I think my next car is either going to be a TT-S, 370z or STi Sedan. I haven't found a solid reason to upgrade yet.

I agree, I had BRZ/FRS fever as well....until I sat in one. Last summer I was at an autocross and there was a new BRZ in blue and it was a sharp looking car. I personally like the BRZ/FRS since it is similar in methodology as the RX-8 (lightweight car that focuses on handling over power). I looked the BRZ over and sat in it, and the back seats are worthless. Ignoring the back seats though, the front seats were great and the steering wheel was fantastic. The gear box didn't feel very crisp just rowing the gears, and the throw was very long. This is where the RX-8 clearing shines in comparison.

While in conversation with the owner I made a sarcastic remark about "Why hasn't anyone tried to make a lightweight, great handling, RWD car before that was under $30k?".....surprising the owner interupted me and said, "They did! You are driving one!"

It made me feel good to meet a BRZ owner that understood that the RX-8 was a very similar car to the BRZ. He even said he almost bought one once, but purchased a Mazdaspeed3 instead at the time. His main argument for the BRZ over the RX-8 was fuel economy, and that is understandable since he is also using it as a commuter car. He has been autocrossing for over 7 years, and has been enjoying his BRZ as both DD and track car.

My main goal for the day was to beat the BRZ at the event. I am happy to say that with only 1 year autocrossing experience, I was able to beat him by 0.4 seconds.

At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself if it is worth the extra cost to make a switch to the BRZ/FRS platform. For me it doesn't make sense since I need rear seats. I also think the RX-8 is on par with the BRZ/FRS for performance.

Also, FWIW, there are already quite a few BRZ's in my neighborhood, and I live in a very poor part of The Bronx. The car is almost too popular already.

There is one I am dying to get a picture of. It's exactly how I see the BRZ becoming in a few years. Dented/chipped front bumper, really cheap looking aftermarket wheels, and cheesy stickers on it. All it needs is a Type R sticker and it will be complete.

The car gets wonderful reviews, but I wonder if any reviewer will spend their money on one for long term ownership.

And yes, I have a personal vendetta against the BRZ because I am tired of everyone telling me that my car is a piece of shit in comparison. Shows how well marketing and a bunch of YouTube videos will affect the mindset of people.

EDIT: Replace BRZ with FRS, I don't see many BRZs at all, I'm just used to saying BRZ instead of FRS.

I have been seeing a lot of the FRS's around here. Hardly any BRZ's.

There is one FRS I have seen around here that stands out, it is lowered and has some really nice rims on it with some wider tires, it looks really mean. I was amazed when I saw the owner in it today, he was in his mid 60's I was not expecting that at all. Props to him!!

I personally think these cars need another 50HP then they would be real winners.

I do, however love the concept and I am amazed a car company actually had the balls to do it.

Seeing so many around is encouraging, hopefully it will create a niche market and we will get some cool offerings from other companies as well.

on top gear this evening they said the deal was that subaru can sell 10 to every 90 toyota's. that could be why the ratio seems so heavy for toyota

They are all over around here. Showing up with their ugly ass stock wheels and tremendous wheel gap. They are lame and really dated for a new car. The BRZ goes for 30k, that is nuckin' futs because just to make it look and sound decent you need to spend another $5,000.00 in wheel, tires, exhaust, and coilovers.

I was sad to see that the brz/frs beat the RX-8's time in the C&D's lightening lap. Though they did say the brakes were fading after one lap :lol2:

Us R3 folks are still safe by over 2 seconds a lap vs. an frs. :rock:

At the end of the day, its still cheaper to mod then the 8. There should be some cool stuff coming out in the future for the car. Prices for aftermarket should go down. I think im totally going to buy one in a few years.

:lol: Obviously you have not seen the prices of quality BRZ/FRS aftermarket parts.

You go guy buy a $30,000.00 FRS/BRZ and then buy an intake, midpipe, catback, and headers (additional $3,000.00 minimum even if you cheap out) and I will go buy a clean low mileage mileage RX-8 and then put the rest of the money in mods and then we will go to the track and have the same driver pilot each car and we will see who runs the fastest lap times and which one looks better doing it :)

Well Id imagine the prices will go down in the next few years.. But yes. With a $30,000 budget you could build a much more bad A, RX-8. But to do forced induction, its cheaper starting on the FR-S for sure. I want to see how the car depreciates in a year or 2. I don't plan on buying one of for like 4 years. I really enjoy my 8 right now. And Im going to enjoy it more when I get to take it to the track this summer. Hopefully I can beat some FRS in autocross or on the racetrack itself. I will make sure to post video when that happens.

I'm having the same argument with myself. I bought my 8 new in '04 and I'm now over 100k. The BRZ is mighty appealing if I want a fresh new car, but do I really want to shell out nearly 30k for a car that is a lateral move at best? I just wish there were more cars like this to pick from.

Thats why I'm going to wait a few years. But I literally want to shell the car out. Its a terrible interior anyhow. Gonna get it usedddd.

I don't think I'll take the dive on the BRZ, especially since the new RX-7 is what I'm really waiting for. Since there is nothing like the 8, I may end up finding a used Mustang to hold me over till (hopefully) the new 7 is a go. I've never had a muscle car so it would definitely be a change from the 8 but I'd like to own at least one during my lifetime so this may be the time.

Is there a price estimate on the new 7 yet? Im guessing its going to be at least 30k base. I feel like it will be in the nizzan 370 price ranges.

i'm thinking 40K+

yea probably... I'm just trying to stay hopeful.
