help

Im really thinking about a 1990 porsche carrera 2 as car that I would use as a project car. I know very little about cars so my question to those w/experience is this: Is this a bad car to purchase since I dont know jacksht about cars? I assume parts cost alot for it and if i need pro help (very likely) it would cost quite a bit. Any help/input would be great.

hmm... i would suggest taking a class or two first at a community college before you actually buy a car to start tinkering with. What if you discover u dont like playing around with cars because it gets frustrating and costs alot of money. it'll take up all of your garage and long hours xP

but yah good luck with that and yah rennlist.com is a great forum so check it out. xP
also, maybe you should start off with a much easier project car? like a honda? lots of people out there to help you, lots of parts available, and its cheap. check out hondatech.com

I'm guessing that you won't find many more expensive cars to work on that an old Porsche. What are you trying to accomplish? If you just want to learn about cars go with an old muscle car. They're easy to work on, parts are cheap, insurance is cheap (no collision) and you don't have to worry about smog. If you're looking to build a really well balanced performance car (power + handling) I would check out old Nissan Z's.

The Porsche 911 series is a ill handling snake that will bite you. Most of the weight of the car is over the rear axle. It has all the cornering problems of the FWD cars only in reverse. They have a tendancy for the rear end to break free, without warning, when accelerating in the corner. And you'll never see them driven in the winter in the snowbelt. Prices for parts and labor are inflated.
With that all said, I would still love to have one for a track car.
