GT3 or 997S?
I have asked the question on many different forums now, but since I haven't spent as much time on these forums I can't be sure of any biases the responses may have.
If you had to choose between a slightly used GT3 or a new 997S bearing in mind the cost differences ~15-30K more for the GT3, but with about 75% of the weight given to performance, which would you choose? |
GT40 or Saleen S7.

If focus is mostly performance then you gotta go with the GT3. Plus, it will probably have a better resale value since it's a special edition with lower production numbers.

hum......!!! I like gt3 better than 997.!!!! ford gt is cool too .!!! consider about it..!!

if I could afford a Ford GT, I would have it in a heart beat, it's about 2-3 times the price of a GT3 though.

that is there sticker price. Most of the GT's I have seen are going for 200K or more. Maybe in 6-12 months they will come down near sticker, but then they are still 50K more than a GT3.
|
the other problem is, they aren't available in Canada yet, January 2005 at the earliest. And only about 250 will be coming to Canada, I am pretty sure when they come there will be 250 people for whom money is no object and will easily out bid me.

Aren't GT3's kinda pricey as well? I thought they wre hitting 6 figures as well, maybe I've been sorely misinformed?
|
no matter how you look at it, no porsche is going to be disappointing, its kinda a problem that noone would mind having..plus i hope you want to bring whatever you do get to DT :) :)

I think I love the 997S more than GT3 for its money, more livable and better looking series (if you can spot the difference :p)
Make sure you get the sport pack with that though, coz the adjustable suspension and increase throttle response is near the performance of a GT3. |
I saw a yellow GT3 the other day in traffic, that thing looked amazing and sounded good too, can't wait until the day when I can maybe afford one of those, or even a C6 for that matter :)
|
If I had access to a track or other suitable grounds then it would be the GT3 no doubt. Since I haven't driven a GT3, I have no idea how harsh the ride is, but that would be the only thing keeping me from it. Since I live in New England (crappy roads/winter) it might make unreasonable, unless I had a beater which means I wouldn't get the drive the P car everyday.:(

GT3 is a crazy car!! it held the Ring's record time (with Walter Rohl behind the wheel) for years!!! ....oh well, until the same guy tried it with a 600hp-turbo-GT2 and dropped it 12secs:eek: ... still the gt3 rapes almost every car around the Nurburing... I say go for it!

GT3 might be an impossibility. I just went to the new house I purchased to take some garage measurements and I noticed that there is an evil little upslope at the bottom of the driveway to get up to sidewalk level. I am not sure that the GT3 has the necessary clearence.
I found a silver GT3 around here which the owner agreed to let me measure for clearence as porsche only knows the ride height  |

shigginsrx8,
Be sure to get the Porsche underbody protector (available at many of the Porsche aftermarket parts vendors, I saw it at performance products), looks like a metel boomerang & fits underneath your front spoiler. I think the 997 S is a bit overpriced, but eminently more drivable for everyday use. The GT3 is a much more pure driving experience with no PSM, lighter, race calibration for the suspension, etc. Depends on what you are looking for. |
Well, I did all the measurements and it should clear...BARELY. I did all the measurements with the guy and his wife sitting in the car too. I went and talked to a gentleman three or four homes up the street from my house who had sime asphalt at the bottome of the drive to lessen the slope. He said his sons civic was bottoming out and that cured it, so if needs be I can do that.
The dealer is now looking for a used Carrera white on black GT3, although they don't think they will find one. |
Gt3!

dealer emailed me this morning. No luck in Canada, they are looking in the states now. Some kid who works at the delearship told them about a white GT3 on ebay, and sure enough. I never checked ebay motors, it usually sucks compared to autotrader.com
EBAY GT3 I think it is a little far away to be seriously considered, but it looks damn fine. Hopefully something turns up on the right coast. Cross your fingers. http://i3.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/e6/3a/ec_1_b.JPG http://i11.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/e6/65/2d_1_b.JPG http://i16.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/e7/09/c5_1_b.JPG http://i19.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/e6/93/6a_1_b.JPG http://i10.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/e5/84/ad_1_b.JPG http://i10.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/e5/84/9e_1_b.JPG |
Damb that is nice.
If you're really worried about the clearance, you can always pay someone to pour the concrete in your driveway to make it a smooth ramp-up. We're about to do ours, I don't think it's expensive at all. |
