GT-R Spec V lapping the Ring in 7.25..

Well, at least according to Autoblog and bystanders. I know you think you've already read enough about the super car from Nissan. I'll let you do the reading.

Here's a tease.. 70 more hp, lighter wheels, ceramic brakes, and more use of carbon fiber. Total weight saved, 330 lbs..

Granted we wouldn't be able to lap "The Ring" in our own GT-R if we could afford one, but that is just crazy fast..

Wonder what their best mpg was..? That's worth another 20 g's, I think..

8 Maniac 04-08-2008 08:32 PM

simply amazing if you ask me... would they take an 8 as an equal trade? the MS8 is better though! the MS8 is always a second faster than other cars! doesnt matter what car.

EdwardsB 04-08-2008 09:14 PM

I can only imagine what the programming technology for traction control, abs and the awd system is like in this car...to do what it does with how much it weighs is unbelievable.

restiller 04-08-2008 09:23 PM

Nice. But I was hoping it would have the Alice Cooper running mascara bumper like the GTR Proto.

If confirmed, it's simply epic.

This is what Shock and Awe is about. Porsche engineers probably working overtime now.

silvernite8 04-09-2008 10:46 AM

This car just keeps on getting better and better.

That or looking for new jobs lol...

This car has clearly raised the bar. Nothing else can touch it for that price.

imput1234 04-09-2008 07:40 PM

The new GT-R & the V-SPEC are both gonna be one heck of a car

Jedi54 04-09-2008 07:41 PM

the Force is strong in the GT-R.

the question is.. what can touch it? Is there a street legal non-tuner car that can match it?

Good job Nissan, even tho I hate all nissan cars.

i think the vette ss might stand a chance if GM significantly upgraded the nervous handling issues. but i dont think it will best the carerra GT's time on the ring. well see.

the most amazing thing I have to keep reminding my self is that the GT-R is very daily drivable and seats 4, and you can take it to your local grocery store..

chickenwafer 04-10-2008 12:31 AM

I just finished reading the comparo in my Road & Track magazine where the new GT-R is pitted against the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Corvette ZO6. It destroys both of them. It wasn't even a comparison. And the GT-R had an as-tested price of $72,000, the ZO6 was around $77,000, and the Porsche over $116,000. I know you won't be able to get a GT-R for MSRP now or even ever, but you can't really get a ZO6 for MSRP now either, so I call it a wash.

It will be interesting to see how the tuner world embraces the GT-R. Of course it's badass and fast, but it's roughly $40,000+ markup more expensive than the most popular tuner cars (Evo's and STI's) and it's new computer-controlled gearbox will surely gum things up. Can't wait to see how it all plays out, tho.

A Zonda F, Konigsegg CCR, Enzo FXX (and a couple other rare special Ferraris), Maseratti MC12, Porsche GT1, and CLK-GTR would probably lap most tracks faster under ideal conditions with the same driver. Beyond that it doesn't seem like there is much that can touch it. I don't have much hope for the new Vette...

Nope, as far as the Vette has come and for how fast it is, it doesn't (and won't in the near future) have the technology the GT-R has in it to come close. That being said it doesn't make cars like the Vette anything less. There will still be people that prefer a more pure car (or perhaps more exotic ones and their fans), such as the Ferrari's, Porsche's, etc. so I don't think those companies are worried. In all these magazine tests, all the writers clearly said the car was so easy to drive and anyone could drive it fast. I think in the R & T article one of the testers said for everything the GT-R can do, he would still prefer the Porsche.

...waiting to see how the new ZR1 does...

nycgps 04-10-2008 11:15 PM

V-Spec has about 200kg in weight savings. For example no rear seats, Carbon in a lot of places, 6 spoke wheel instead of the zillion spoke now, etc.

Even A/C becomes an option.

Carbon Brakes, u wont see this on the streets.

Not to mention the V-spec there is no *noraml/race* switch to flip around, its always at Race setup.

Vette? forget it, it will never come even close to GT-R's performance. Porshce, after a while maybe, but Im sure not now.

Ever Hernandez 04-11-2008 12:03 AM

Definitely, the GT-R is the best thing to have happened to the automobile in recent history..

Corvette ZR-1 'Ring times in low 7:40s, GT-R V-Spec amused..

the ZR-1 is not even close to the spec V

Leading up to the official reveal of the Corvette ZR-1, a rare week went by when we didn't see spy shots of the General's new super coupe eating up the Nurburgring. But still images don't tell the whole tale, so InsideLine sent its spies to the North Loop with a video camera to capture an uncloaked ZR-1 making the rounds on the 'Ring. According to the men behind the lens, they were able to clock the 620 hp, supercharged 'Vette running laps "in the low 7:40s," easily within reach of supercars costing substantially more than the ZR-1's estimated $100k price tag. But what about the elephant on the 'Ring in the room? The Nissan GT-R V-Spec.

As reported earlier this week, spies caught the GT-R V-Spec lapping the Nordschleife, and with stopwatches at the ready, they were able to time Godzilla's lightweight (by an estimated 330 pounds), more powerful (70 hp or so) sibling at an unbelievable 7:25 per lap. According to the crew that crudely timed the ZR-1, the track was damp, so that 7:40 time could easily be improved by at least four or five seconds. But that's still a long way off.

Obviously, both lap times should be taken with a grain of salt considering the less-than-accurate way in which they were captured, but that won't stop the smack-talk. Keep it civil folks.

Yep, I guess it's safe to assume the the GT-R would've bested the vette's time under the same condition, as it has posted consistent numbers over less than favorable tarmac..(dusty airstrips)

Must be hell to be a Porsche engineer now. You can almost hear the sound of the whip being cracked on their backs.

playdoh43 04-14-2008 02:43 PM

toyota engineers too, the LF-As has been pulled from nurburgring. It seems they are going back to the drawing board, im sure several companies are taking GT-Rs apart right now analyzing every thing about it.
